Dear Nuclear Criticality Safety Lab,

My name is Roxanne Brito. Currently I am an intern at Sandia National Labs. I am
applying for Nuclear Criticality Safety Analyst. As an intern I have managed other students
and published reports through Sandia. My goal is to make nuclear power a standard
alternative to coal, and make it safe enough to remove the negative connotation that nuclear
has associated with it nuclear criticality is one of the biggest concerns of people and would
be an excellent industry to start working towards my goals. Working in the research and
development of advanced nuclear fuel cycle I have learned the importance of criticality
safety in a power production facility. I have participated on several projects that include
using models and writing my own code to analyze safety situations concerning nonproliferation.
Today I am a member of Women in Nuclear and Nuclear Engineering Institute and I
participate in the annual conferences to keep my knowledge of the utilities industry current. I
believe this would make me an asset because I also know the utilities industry, and the
research and development industries concerns with critically especially occurring in spent
fuel pools during cooling and on the holding pads.
I attended the University of New Mexico for my undergraduate degree and have had
some experience operating a nuclear reactor. I also took classes that focus on safety analysis
that use code and models to determine accuracy of safety procedures, such as Principals of
Radiation Protection. I am proficient is several different commuter modeling software and
coding languages such as, Matlab, C++, and Java.
I also took classes that provide me a background in nuclear medicine and nuclear
physics. Having this experience makes me an excellent candidate because the biggest
concern of having criticality happen during the transportation of medical isotopes for the
treatment of cancer which only exist for a maximum of 60 hours.
In addition to my school experience my internship and attendance of conferences
provide me with an excellent attitude with group work I actually prefer it. I have seen most
of the aspects of engineering from construction of experiments to managing the budgets.
This experience makes me an excellent analyst with management experience, I have worked
with some of the best mangers at Sandia including the first female Labs Director. I believe
my education and experiment would make me a great Nuclear Criticality Safety Analyst.

Thank you for the consideration of my application.

Best,
Roxanne Jacklyn Brito
