Abstract: In this project temperature of the surroundings is measured using ther
mistor. Thermistor, which is a temperature sensitive resistor, is embedded in on e of the arms of the wheatstone bridge and the bridge is calibrated such that it remains balanced at room temperature. Whenever the temperature changes resistan ce offered by thermistor changes hence the bridge becomes unbalanced. The main ad vantage of using thermistor is its high sensitivity and relatively high resistan ce which helps to provide precise measurements .Although a thermistor has non-li near characteristics ,it can be linearized by placing a normal resistor in paral lel with the thermistor, which has the effect of linearizing the combined circui t's resistance. If the resistor's value is chosen to be equal to the thermistor' s resistance at room temperature (R25C), then the region of relatively linear re sistance will be symmetrical around room temperature. The output bridge voltage i s conditioned by signal conditioning circuit which includes instrumentation ampl ifier, low pass filter, A/D converter. The digital voltage output from A/D conve rter can be displayed using display unit(lcd display). To observe the working of the circuit, extreme temperatures are measured such as the temperature of ice c ubes and the temperature of the tip of a soldering iron.
