other bits and baubles we can find in the closet
Station 3: Paint, brushes, palettes, buckets for water, paper towels,

Station 4: Bristol board or heavy paper, markers, colored pencils, yarn,
paper, similar bits and bobbles to studio 2.
Teacher materials:
Station 1: Same as students,
Station 2: Images of costumes that show transformation,
Station 3: Artist examples of use of cool/warm colors,
Station 4: Same as students.
Four studios; each have their own directive
*During the making portions of the lesson, we will stop the entire class
and ask 1-2 students from each section to explain they have been
working on.

Paper Cutting:
o Play with light and shadow. Students at this station will
use paper to create either a 2D or 3D image. Teacher will
step in and show students how to make pop-ups, as well
as various other techniques for cutting intricate patterns,
ripping, gluing pieces together, etc.
o Explanation of directive
o Explanation of techniques
o *Making

Costumes:
o Show transformation. We decided that we should have a
costume-making studio to act as a continuation of the
previous weeks lesson. Students who enjoyed making
masks the week prior might benefit in this lesson by
expanding on what they learned and approaching a similar
task in a new way.
o Explanation of directive
o Explanation of techniques
o *Making

Painting:
o Use a limited color palette. Specifically, this studio center
will limit its focus to warm/cool colors. We will be
demonstrating how artists use cool/warm colors to create a
mood/feelings. If students display an understanding of this
concept, we could ask them to complicate the idea by
trying to make an anxious painting using cool colors or a
calming painting using warm colors.
o Explanation of warm and cool colors
o Show artist examples (representational, abstract, etc.)
o *Making

Photography:
o Use a photograph you take to inspire a work. iPads will
be used for their camera feature, and there will be a brief
mini-lesson on how to work the iPads and the various
functions of the camera app, and to ensure a basic
understanding of photography. Depending on teacher
availability, the students at this station may be taken in a
group to photograph areas and objects other than the
classroom, such as various other areas of the building
and/or the outdoors, weather permitting. They will then
create a work - perhaps a drawing or collage - that is
inspired by one of their photographs.
o iPad mini-lesson
o Take photographs
o *Make works
