Executive summary

In this report it becomes clear how important content curation is nowadays. Individuals use
it to gather useful information and save all that data in one digital place, so they can easily
find it back. And companies use it to create their online presence for themselves and the
industry in which theyre active. Moreover, if you use content curation right then it can be a
powerful marketing tool.

Personal: A way to discover, gather and present digital content that surrounds a
specific subject matter (Mullan, Econtent, 2011)
Company: A marketing tool that allows you to generate a specific online presence by
gathering and presenting digital content that surrounds a specific matter. (Mullan,
Econtent, 2011)

Why do I use it?

Personal: You can use content curation to gather information about a specific subject
that youre very interested in from various sources in one place. This is a very easy
way to make sure that all the information thats related about one subject is stored in
one place. Moreover, content curation tools like Pocket allow you to save a website
as it is at that time, so if it gets deleted than you can still see the same version of that
site from when you saved it to Pocket. Also when youre really interested in a certain
topic, you have many content curation tools that can supply you with interesting
information about that topic. For example, Pinterest is ideal for people who are
interested in lifestyle topics since their content consists mainly out of fashion, baking
and so on and you can pin the things that interest you to your own boards. This is
content curation because you can save all the information that youve gathered on
that site to your own board. This makes retrieving your information very easy because
you save it all in the same digital place.
Company: Companies use it as a marketing tool and to define their online presence,
which can give them a form of authority. Moreover, they can use it to give their
customers a good idea of the market in which theyre active. By selecting the right
articles and sources, I can convince my customer that Im a big player in the market or
that Im reliable and that they should invest in my product. (Koppen, 2014) Companies
can also add blogposts to the content curation tool of their preference and suggest
their content to users that might be interested in their posts or products; this way
they use content curation as a powerful marketing tool as well. (Clerck, 2011)

How do you define good content curation? Define.

Goals: The goal of content curation is to build an online presence that represents your
company and the market in which youre active. It should help you attract new
customers.
Processes: For good content curation, you need to apply the following processes:
research, add your own ideas, placement (which content management system to use),
creation (dont just repost something but do something with the articles; give them
your own personal touch), publishing (when and what will you publish) and promotion
(Vries, 2015)

Where can you find good content?

You can find good content with specialized content management tools like scoop it;
Companies and other parties will only post content that they find valuable to those
sites, which should make it easy to find good content.

Conclusion
Content curation is very important for personal and professional use. Furthermore, it can be
a very powerful marketing tool and it shapes your online presence.
