Mentoring Program
Human Development Center
6833 West Fond du Lac Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53218
Dear HR Professional:
I am pleased to serve as a reference for Nancy Romero, who is interested in becoming a mentor with your
organization.
Nancy is an excellent candidate for several reasons. Her work ethic is strong, she functions well
independently or as part of a team, and she is unfailingly cheerful. The fact that she is bilingual is a definite
plus.
Nancy is generous with both her time and talent, and her communication skills are strong. She has been a
student in two of my courses and did well in both. Most recently she was in a digital publishing course in
which students were asked to design original logos and related collateral for outside clients with genuine
promotional needs. In order to satisfy the clients, Nancy asked good questions, listened carefully, and
communicated both orally and in writing with the clients, the teaching assistants and me.
Allow me to share a story that illustrates Nancys character, her positive attitude, and her abundance of
patience. Although I dont speak well, I enjoy practicing Spanish. When I speak to a native speaker in
Spanish most often the student responds in English. This is quite frustrating! However, Nancy always answers
me in Spanish, and she also initiates conversations in Spanish. When I dont immediately understand
something shes said, Nancy is patient and kind and willing to work with me.
In sum, I can see Nancys skill set easily transferring into the role of mentor, and any youth mentored by
Nancy will be fortunate, indeed.
Sincerely,
/s/
