Standard L1 Engligh Language Arts (L1.d)

Powerpoint, YouTube, Text lesson, Handouts, Polleverywhere

We will use Powerpoint to introduce the lesson and Poll Everywhere to assess knowledge as a class.
Standard 3.0 Technology for Learning and Collaboration: Use a variety of technologies for learning
and collaboration (use and understand how technology enhances learning: use technology tools,
including software and hardware, from a range of teacher-selected options to learn new content of
reinforce skills).

TEACHING THE LESSON

Introducing the Lesson:
First, we will go over the student objective. We will then review what the class learned the day before
(present and future tense). We will review what they learned by using the Polls everywhere website.
The objectives for the day will be displayed on a powerpoint and read out loud. We will then start class

by asking students what they did yesterday, then explain to them that they are speaking in the past
tense when they talk about events that happened yesterday.
Plans for Differentiation- The video accommodates visual and auditory learners by allowing them to
both hear the use of the past tense verb, and seeing the past tense of the verb on the screen when it is
used. The Polls Everywhere activity accommodates kinesthetic learners by allowing them to become
more active in the lesson.
Procedures for teaching the Content Objectives
Review previous lesson with poll
Ask class about what they did yesterday
Powerpoint with definition of past tense and examples
Show video on past tense
Pair students for Poll Everywhere activity on past tense
Handout
Homework
Multiple versions of content (sounds, visual, text-video): RECOGNITION
Multimedia Presentation tools (Polls Everywhere): STRATEGIC
Tie activities to students deep subject interests (homework on favorite memory): AFFECTIVE
Summary and Lesson Closure
We plan to end the lesson with a discussion about why it is important to know the past tense. We will
then let the students know that tomorrow they will learn about the past tense of irregular verbs.
Formative Assessment We will collect the handout the students complete in class in order to assess student progress and
determine what we need to go over next class.
Extension of learning- describe
Homework will be to write 3 sentences about the students favorite memories, and underlining the past
tense verbs they use.
