Fall 2013 Courses

EDTS 232
The EDTS 232 course taught me a lot of basic knowledge about teaching. It
taught me about the different learning styles and multiple intelligences you
will find in your classroom. Everything I learned in this course contributes to
me as a teacher.
EDTS 232 - Practicum
The practicum portion of EDTD 232 really helped me know if teaching was
the right career choice for me. It allowed me to go into the classroom and
help my practicum teacher with various activities. My practicum was in the
I.F Cox School helping with grade.3.
GNED 220 - Texts and Ideas
In this GNED course, we learned a lot about artificial intelligences and cyber
space. I think this can contribute to me as a teacher because this is the
direction the world is slowly moving towards and its good to be aware of the
changes that are happening in society.
LING 201 - Introduction to Linguistics
This linguistics course taught me where different sounds are articulated from
and how to analyze words from various different languages. I think this can
really help me as a teacher, especially for teaching subjects like English and
History.
PHIL 201 - Problems of Philosophy
This course taught me about the different philosophers throughout history
and what they believed in, this is beneficial to know as a teacher because
similar topics are likely to come up when teaching things like History,
Physics, Social Studies, Science, etc.
PSYCH 205 - Principles of Psychology
This course helped me to better understand humans and human behaviour,
this is a really great skill for teachers to have because we are dealing with
many different types of people on an everyday basis.

Winter 2014 Courses


EDTS 234
This EDTS course took us more deep into the education profession, we
learned how to make lesson plans and assessments. We did a lot of work
this semester in collaborative teams, which I think is a really important skill
for any teacher to have.
EDTS 234 - Practicum
For this practicum placement I was in a grade 8 classroom at Alexandre
Middle School. This was a placement that I was not sure about at first, but I
really developed a love for teaching middle school by the end of it. I also
had the opportunity to plan and teach a science lesson in this practicum.
ENGL 252 - Introductory Composition
This was an English course, the course taught me a lot about writing essays,
analyses, and research papers. This will defiantly contribute to the teaching
profession, because basic skills like these are crucial to have, especially for
marking and teaching subjects like English.
GNED 230 Globalization
This GNED course talked about different global situations that everyone
should be aware of and how globalization works. This contributes to me as a
teacher because I think its important for teachers to have a broadened
world view and be away of global situation.
NUTR 200 - Introduction to Nutrition
This course discusses the benefits and recommended values of various
nutrients, it also discusses problems and complications you can have from
lack and over consumption of nutrients. I think this course would contribute
to any teacher because its important to be able to inform students of the
importance of nutrition. As well its important for a teacher to eat a healthy,
balanced diet so they have energy to teach a class room full of students all
day.
KNES 247 - Introduction to Wellness, Fitness and Nutrition
Kinesiology taught me a lot of basic wellness, fitness and nutrition
information, this course also had a lab component. The lab was once a week
for one and a half hours and helped me with different workout techniques.
This class really helped contribute to me as a teacher because its important

to know how to live a healthy balanced life style and to be a positive role
model to students.

Fall 2014 Courses


Education Psychology for teaching
This course focuses on the psychological, social and educational
determinants of child development. It includes theory, research, and
illustrations all dealing with the classroom application of psychological
principles and will involve you in interpersonal experiences with
development of children, student leaning and instruction, individual and
group difference in student abilities, and student motivation.
Scientific and Mathematic Literacy for the Modern World
This course focuses on mathematical literacy and concepts in relation to our
world. The course reviewed many theories and mathematic principles
previously learned, but also touched on new principles and theories. This
course helped contribute to me as a teacher because it made math relevant
to the real word and situations that are happening in the present day.
An introduction to History: Canada, Origins to 1867
The focus of this course was learned important concepts, wars and people
that helped pave the road to confederation in 1867. This course helped me
to better understand Canada and how it become a country over 100 years
ago. This greatly contributes to my teaching practices and helped me to
become more knowledgeable of Canadas history.
The Nature of Religion
In this course we learned about a variety of different religions and important
theories, beliefs and people in those religions. This course contributes to me
as a teachers because it is extremely important to be aware that students
may have different beliefs and religions, thus its important to have a wellrounded knowledge of the different religions in our world.
Introduction Art Experience for Teachers I
This course focused on different art concepts and techniques. Not only this
but this course focused on teaching art to elementary students in effective

and meaning full ways. This course also included at 40 hour practicum which
allowed us to teach cross curricular art projects to elementary students.

Winter 2015 Courses


Intro to Movement Activities of Children & Youth
This course focused on students movement and skills. This course had a
classroom portion, which taught us important theories and concepts about a
variety of skills as well as the importance of students being physically active.
There was also a gym portion to this class which allowed us to participate
and practices a variety of skills and isolation and with games. This course
greatly contributed to me as a teacher because it allowed us to see students
different developmental levels as well as ways to implement those skills in a
physical education class.
Survey of English Literature II
This was an English course, the course taught me a lot about writing essays,
analyses, and research papers. This will defiantly contribute to the teaching
profession, because basic skills like these are crucial to have, especially for
marking and teaching subjects like English.
Popular Culture in Nineteenth Century Canada
In this history course we learned an entirety of ideas, perspectives, attitudes,
images, and other phenomena that occurred within the Canadian culture in
nineteenth century Canada. This course helped me to better understand
cultures in the past and the importance of different cultures in general, which
can greatly contribute to the classroom.
Tools for Teaching and Learning in the Digital Classroom
This course provides you with strategies and skills for the effective use of
digital technologies within the classroom learning environment. You will
develop educational resources for integrating technology into current
curriculum and become familiar with emerging trends for learning and
teaching in todays digital classroom.

Language Development and Literacy in School


This course focuses on the development of language and the importance of
literacy for individuals as well as within the classroom setting. Specific topics
for discussion include culture and language, the relationship of language to
thought, memory, learning, teaching methods, and intervention strategies
designed to assist children. Students will also examine leaning principles in
order to gain a better understanding of how language development occurs as
well as to determine best practice in teaching language and literacy in
elementary school classrooms. This course requires all students to
participate in 20 hours of relevant filed experiences within a school setting.

Fall 2015
Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Science
This course explores knowledge and skills required to implement programs of
studies in teaching Science in elementary schools. The course will address a
range of approaches to develop instruction, plan units of study, integrate
curriculum, develop resources and assessment strategies to meet students'
needs, including test design and construction and the reporting of evaluation
results
Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Mathematics
This course explored knowledge and skills required to implement programs
of studies in teaching Mathematics in elementary schools. The course will
address a range of approaches to develop instruction, plan units of study,
integrate curriculum, develop resources and assessment strategies to meet
students needs, including test design and construction and the reporting of
evaluation results.
Curriculum Instruction in Teaching Physical Education
This course examines the fundamental knowledge, understanding, values,
attitudes, skills, and processes required to implement an effective program
of studies for teaching Physical Education in elementary schools. The course
will address relevant instructional methodologies, unit planning, curriculum
integration, and resource development. Students will investigate a range of
assessment strategies including test design and construction and the
reporting of evaluation results.
Instruction in Teaching English Language Arts, Elementary

This course explores the knowledge and skills required to implement


programs of studies in teaching English Language Arts in elementary
schools. The course will address relevant instructional methodologies, unit
planning, curriculum integration and resource development. Students will
investigate a range of assessment strategies including test design and
construction, and the reporting of evaluation results.
