SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS OF CANADA

REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION
NEWSLETTER

NOVEMBER 2015

Message from the President

It was the Seaforth's honour this year to lay the wreath on behalf of Canadian Army Veterans. This
distinguished duty rotates between the Vancouver regiments and this year we were ably
represented in this vital task by 2Lt.(Ret.) Rick Ciccone, and Sgt. Rob Veltman. As well HCol Shields
and myself laid the wreath on behalf of the Seaforth Regimental Association and the CO, LCol
Ursich, with RSM O'connor were in overall command of the entire parade. All in all, Seaforths were
front and center at this years Remembrance Day Ceremony at Victory Square, well done everyone!
We will be having a meeting of the Association Executive on 2 Dec 2015, at 1800 in the Jericho
Garrisons Anderson Room. All association members are welcome to come, listen, bring suggestions
and heckle, whatever!
A busy season is coming up for all of us, and with the Christmas season now closing in , I want to thank everyone in
advance for all the hard work that will be dedicated to our various events taking place in the near future.
Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this weds and at Ortona!
Caber Feidh!

Dinner

The Annual Ortona Dinner will be held again this year at the Jericho Garrison.
The traditional dinner will be held complete with a menu inspired by what the
soldiers ate at that fateful meal 72 years ago.

We desperately need Veterans for this event that we can make nervous young
Privates sit beside. Whether your service was in World War II, Korea,
peacekeeping, Afghanistan or at home in Canada. Come with some war stories;
we can supply the helmets.

The Vimy Dinner is quickly becoming one of the best Regimental events of the
year. Over the last two years Rick Ciccone, Chair of the Vimy Dinner
Committee, has gone to great lengths to increase attendance and make this
event more about the reunion and less about the dinner. The day will start
with a memorial service to remember our fallen Seaforths, complete with a
Vigil guard of serving members mounted around the Vimy Cross. There will
then be a brief reception, followed by dinner. While all the elements of a
formal mess dinner are included the format has been relaxed so that we do
not bore our guests. Please feel free to invite a guest to give them a chance to
experience the Seaforth Family. More details on timings will come out closer to
the event. We need volunteers to make this event work. Please contact Rick
Ciccone at ciccone.rick@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.

Association News
One Kit Shop to Rule Them All
The Seaforth Regimental Association Kit Shop is combining with the Seaforth Junior Ranks Kit Shop
to offer all Seaforths both past and present access to a number of new regimental items. The
Junior Ranks Mess absorbed the kit shop run by the regiment in 2009 and since then has offered
members an expanding selection of modern regimental kit. With this amalgamation we will now
have one kit shop for all Seaforth Regimental Kit. Check the last page of the newsletter for a price
list and check out the Kit Shops Facebook group at Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Kitshop for pics
of many new items.

Time to Renew Your Membership
The new year is approaching and it is time to renew your membership. Did you know that the Seaforth Association only
has three sources of income? Membership Dues make up the majority of what we bring in each year. We also make a
small amount from items in the kit shop and accept donations. The events that we put on are run near the breakeven
point. We really do rely on your dues to fund the operating costs for the Association so please renew your membership!
