Just how I ended my last paper on Chase, Megan, and Cole. Cole was two years old.

Just
celebrated his second birthday. Cole just finished getting his doctorate. He is working, at the
University of Utah as a cardiovascular surgeon. Megan, ended up only getting her RN, and is
working as a part time NICU nurse at Primary Children's hospital. They both ended up doing
very well in their careers. They both were so stressed out about finishing school, but they ended
up both finishing school without a worry. So that made things a lot less stressful for Megan since
that was the first thing she was worried about, she was super stressed out about them not
finishing or not getting a job.
At the age of two Cole is very hyper but listens very well. But Cole is very OCD, Cole
likes things in a very precise way. He likes things in just the right way. Cole likes his clothes in
just right way, he absolutely loves his clothes. But, he has to have them ironed and very straight
if they aren't then he will not where them. Its a very funny thing to watch actually since not most
two year olds really like clothes or care about that kind of thing. (Just Right page: 169. Ch 5.
The tendency of children to insist on having things done in a particular way. This includes
clothes, food, bed time routines, and so on.) Because, most two year olds don't care about
clothes. They only really care about is getting dirty, playing in the mud, or just causing troubles.
But Cole is very different. He likes things in a very orderly way, and I cannot forget that he is
very independent. He like to figure stuff out on his own. Cole right now is in that faze where all
he wants is to test the waters. Or as I should say, he is testing it with Megan and Chase. He likes
to see how far he can get with things or how long it takes him to get into trouble. But Megan
always says if he wasn't so dang cute he would get in trouble a lot more often than he does.
Chase, and Cole have a very good relationship. They absolutely love playing tee-ball together.

Chase is trying to train Cole before he is three because, thats when he can start on an actual
team. But that was just the intro to what has been going on as Cole being two.
Cole is now there and starting his first year of pre-school. Megan and Chase were very
particular in finding the perfect pre-school. It took them two weeks to find that one. They wanted
to find a pre-school that helped him become independent, further his education, and also help
him become sociable with friends. They found a school called, Sunshine Square. His teacher is
name Miss. Kim, he goes 4 days a week Monday through Thursday, from nine in the morning
until twelve-thirty. At this school they have an age range that goes from just three. then the next
group is four to five. In the three year olds group they start to recognize their number, letters,
colors, shapes, and how to write their name. Megan and Chase get to meet with Miss Kim this
Tuesday, with Cole. Tuesday roles around and Cole is very excited to meet his teacher Miss. Kim
and to start pre-school. They all walk into Sunshine Square, and Miss. Kim is standing there and
says, hi Cole, I am Miss. Kim, I am so happy and excited that you are going to come here.
How are you doing today Cole? Cole, looks at her and says, great, I am happy to meet you.
Miss. Kim, Megan, and Chase all sit there talking to each other for about an hour. Miss. Kim
explains the whole curriculum to them and the whole years worth. About a month goes on and
its time for parent teacher conference. They go into meet Miss. Kim, Miss. Kim starts out by
saying, Cole, is an amazing boy. He is always trying to help out, he is very polite. Cole is
excelling at every aspect so far. Megan and Chase are so thrilled to hear that from her. As they
were driving home Chase pulled in to Cold Stone Creamery, and turns around to Cole and says,
you deserve a big ice-cream because, you did such an amazing job at school. Cole is so excited.
He gets out of the car and ran straight in. Cole knew exactly what kind he wanted. He walks up
to the front of the line and says, I would like to have sweet cream with raspberries, graham

crackers, and sprinkles please. In the biggest bowl you've got with a waffle cone! The lady
smiles at him and says, youve got it!
Cole is a very bright child. He is in his second year of pre-school right now, Megan and
Chase have decided that they want Cole to do two years of pre-school. They just feel like he will
do better with two years rather than just the one. At the beginning of the school year Cole was
three and now Cole is four now. He is now learning how to write each letter, learn to count and
writhes numbers one through 100, and starting to learn how to read very basic words. Miss. Kim
calls Megan now day asking if she would like to come in and tutor some of the kids that are
struggling. Megan says she would love to so on her days off she goes in. There is one day she
goes in and is inside helping one of the little girls named Sophia. They were working on Sophias
reading. Sophia is really struggling on sounding out and figuring out her basics words. As they
are studying, Megan hears someone screaming, its Miss Kim she was outside with the other
children letting them play on the playground. Megan goes running out to see what is wrong when
she sees Miss. Kim hovering over Cole, Megan runs over there and sees that Cole is screaming
in pain. Miss. Kim is screaming call 911 Cole has broken his arm. Megan starts bawling, and is
on the phone with 911. The ambulance comes and Cole and Megan get into the ambulance.
Megan, calls Chase and tells them to meet them about the hospital. As they get there they run
Cole right into the X-Ray. The doctor comes out and says Cole has a compound open
fracture/comminuted fracture. The compound fracture mans that in came out of the skin, and also
the comminuted fracture means its broken into three or more pieces. The doctor says that he will
need to get a screw put into in and will have to where a cast for six weeks. Megan and Chase say
okay and they send him in. Cole comes out of surgery two in a half hours later very loopy. Cole
has to stay in the hospital for three days. The third day comes around and Cole is at the moment

getting to pick what color of fast the wants. Cole picks blue. The doctor say only if you had a
secondary prevention rather than having to go all the way to tertiary prevention. Megan and
Chase both shock there head and said yeah we wish the same thing to. ( Tertiary prevention.
page: 174 ch:5, actions, such as immediate and effective medical treatment, that are taken after
and adverse event occurs and that are aimed at reducing the harm or proving disability). The
doctor says come back every two weeks so we can change the cast.
Cole is five years old now just about to turn six. Cole went through a really bad car
accident with his grandma. Cole now has terrible nightmares and an they took him to a specialist
just to see if there was something that they could do. the specialist tell them that at Coles age the
amygdala in the brain is what registers fears, and when he went through that car accident that
part of the brain almost took a picture of it and as he gets older goes through more things it will
all go away. (amygdala page:180 ch:5, a tiny brain structure that registers emotions, particularly
fear and anxiety). The doctor tells them at night they should, read a good bed time story, watch a
funny/happy TV show, or maybe get a night light or a comfort animal to help sooth him. Right
before he goes to bed to give him happier thoughts right before bed rather than having him
constantly think about what has happened. The doctor also says it is a very good thing to talk
about thing like this. Ask Cole, why he is still scared or what could you do to help him feel better
on what has happened? Megan and Chase go home and ask Cole what they could do to help him?
And Cole says maybe a night light and a knew stuffed animal. They go out that day and by him a
race card that is like a pillow and a new Spiderman night light so it can be a little brighter in his
room. That night right before bed they watched Jake and the Never land Pirates, and also read a
short bed time story. That night Cole slept through the night. Megan and Chase were so happy to

see him finally sleeping peacefully. Because, they knew he was feeling vey miserable. they were
just very pleased on what happened.
Cole is now six years old and is starting kindergarten, at Welby Elementary. Cole is very
excited to start school because, he know he gets to go to a big kid school. Cole will go to
school Monday through Friday, from twelve until three-thirty. Megan will be able to take him to
school at lunch then Chases mom will pick him up from school and keep him until six on the
days Megan has to work. Cole is a very good kid most of the time but lately, he is starting to
have some crazy out bursts. just when things aren't going smoothly or how they should be
running. Cole just gets to the point of being super frustrated to where he doesn't know how to
explain what he wants or what might be going wrong at that moment. So he will ether start
screaming and freaking out at Megan or Chase or he will just have a meltdown of tears and
babbling. Chase told Megan that they are externalizing problems. It happens to kids around this
age. (externalizing problems. page: 209, Ch:6, difficulty with emotional regulation that involves
expressing powerful feelings through uncontrolled physical or verbal out bursts, as by lashing
out at other people or breaking things). But other than those small outbursts Cole is a very good
kid. He loves going to school, making new friends and is all around a very down to earth little
boy. Cole has a best friends named Ryker, who is a little autistic. Cole is Rykers only friend
because, most kids dont know how to handle Ryker but Cole and him get along great and have
an amazing time together. Cole is very patient with Ryker, and he helps him through a lot. Cole
with help him if he is struggling in school or is getting made fun of. Cole is always standing up
for him and is trying to explain to kids why he is like that.

Its Coles seventh birthday. He is having an animal party. Megan and Chase hired this guy
who comes in with snakes, spiders, and lizards. Cole has been so excited for his birthday party.
He has been waiting weeks for it. He invited about ten boys even Ryker, they spent almost all
day together. The next day Cole went to school and everyone was so excited to talk about his
party since none of them have ever been to a party like that. All the boys were grossing out the
girls telling them all the gross things they touched, and they all had pictures and were bragging
about it. Cole, was talking to all the other boys about Ryker and Cole asked them how they liked
him and all the boys said that they really like him now. Because, they actually got to talk to him
for the first time and he is a really nice and fun kid. They were telling Cole how they never ever
thought they would be friends with him but that all changed by his party. That night Cole was so
excited to tell Megan and Chase about how he changed the boys minds on Ryker. Megan and
Chase have never seen Cole so excited about something until that day. Megan, and Chase told
Cole how proud of them they were because, he is such an amazing little boy. They told him that
not many boys his age take time out of there day to help explain another persons problems to his
friends. They are just so happy that, he has such an amazing heart. They told Cole that they hope
he keeps his big heart as he continues to get older and older. Because, with his big heart he will
go so far in life because, he will always see the best in people even when no one else will. But at
the same time he could have people walk all over him. Megan and Chase were talking to
Megans mom telling her how good Cole is doing in school and just everything. They were just
telling Megans mom how Cole is so creative and has such an imagination. They were telling her
mom about how he will just go in his room and set up his Legos and build a huge house for his
super heroes and he will just pretend play for hours in his room. ( sociodramatic play. Page: 214,

Ch: 6, pretend play in which children act out various roles and themes in stories that they create).
Coles grandma was so excited to hear that because, Chase used to do that as a kid.
Cole is eight and in the second grade. Cole loves school so much. But Megan and Chase
got a phone call today from Coles teacher saying that there is another student named Jake who is
constantly bugging Cole by talking to him and trying to distract him or pull him away from his
work. But the teacher was only calling to let them know that Cole is doing and amazing job at
having selective attention when it comes to him. He will explain to Jake that he is ether busy or
he will just ignore him and continue doing what he is supposed to be doing. (selective attention.
Page: 256, Ch: 7, the ability o concentrate on some stimuli while ignoring other). When Cole got
home from school Megan and Chase asks about this Jake kid and Cole tells that he just really
likes attention. But Cole also says that Jake has a very hard home life that his dad passed away
and he mom isn't a very good mom. Cole tells them that he is just looking for a friend. I would
be his friend i just have to let him know every now and then when he cant talk to me. Megan
and Chase tell Cole that he is doing a very good job. Megan and Chase have been talking about
moving lately just a little further from his school now. But Cole will be able to go to the same
school as he is going to now. So that night Megan and Chase take Cole to him favorite restaurant
to tell him the news about them moving. They order there food and start eating Chase and Megan
ask Cole what he thinks about them moving and Cole says he would be fine with moving. So
after dinner Megan and Chase go and show Cole the house they will be getting and Cole is very
excited beaches, he can go to the same school and will be closer to Rykers house. Cole is very
resilient about it so that makes things a lot easier for Megan and Chase, they were very nervous
on what they would think. (resilience page:287, ch:8, the capacity to adapt well to significant
adversity and to overcome serious stress).

Cole is nine years old and is in the third grade. He has to write a short story on someone
he looks up to and he picked Chases dad. He wants to right about him because, he is dealing with
cancer right now and he wants to write about how strong he is. Chase helps Cole write this short
story well helps him with all the information, like on what type of cancer he has what treatments
he has to do, and how many times he has to do it an week and for how long. When Cole gives the
paper to the teacher she was very please on Coles write technique and his creativity. Cole is
having a aptitude towards writing. He absolutely and he loves it so much he cant get enough of
it he now is constantly writing his own make believe stories and all sorts of different things he is
doing an amazing job with them. (aptitude. Page: 269. Ch:7, the potential to master a specific
skill or certain body of knowledge). Cole continues to excel in school, his teacher makes him
take an achievement test to see where he places in math, reading, writing, and science.
(achievement test. Page:269. Ch: 7, a measure of mastery or proficiency in reading, mathematics,
writing, and science, or some other subject). Cole excelled in all of them but science, Cole has a
veer hard time with science but his teacher is always willing to help him and Cole always goes in
early if he needs help. The other day the teacher wanted them to go home and ask his parents
what kind of parenting they do. There options were authoritarian, permissive, authoritative,
and/or neglectful parenting. Megan and Chase ask Cole what he thinks they are and Cole says,
I think you guys are authoritative parents. Megan and Chase agreed with him and said thats what
we were going to choose. (authoritative parenting. Page: 217. Ch. 6. An approach to child rearing
in which the parents set limits and enforce rules but are flexible and listen to their children).

At ten years old Cole is in the fourth grade. He is still doing wonderful in school. Today,
in class they were talking about nuclear families, single-parent families, extended families, and
also polygamous families. The teacher makes each student write about what kind of families they
live in so they can all share. Cole writes about his nuclear family. (nuclear family. Page: 294.
Ch:8. a family that consist of a father, a mother, and their biological children under the age of
18). As each kid goes up Cole notices a lot of people only have one parent. Cole feels really
lucky by having both of his parents. The next day Cole and Ryker were walking home when
these middle school kids decide that they want to be really mean to Ryker as always Cole stands
up for them and tell them to stop bullying Ryker. They just laugh and say he deserves it. That
always sets Cole off but he tells Ryker come on lets go theres no point fighting with them. Ryker
always tells Cole thank you. Then of course Cole says that he doesn't need to thank him.
(bullying. Page: 306. Ch:8. repeated, systematic effects to inflict harm through physical, verbal,
or social attack on a weaker person).
