What Went Particularly Well
What went particularly well was that the students had fun and were able to make the connection that there are not always
enough prey for certain predators which caused certain predators die, therefore shrinking the food web/food chain.
What Will You Change Next Time
What I would change about the lesson next time would be to have the students collect the prey so that other students would not
cheat and erase other students initials and claim the prey as their own.
The Feedback You Received From Your Mentor Teacher
I received similar feedback from my mentor, being that next time I should be sure that the students collect the prey because too
many students want to cheat to collect the most prey, though that is not the point of the game.
Managing Student Behavior
The students were mostly well behaved and on task, very few did not participate and only one or two in each class decided that
they wanted to run, despite the rules, so they were instructed to sit down and not participate.
Teacher Movement
When it comes to teacher movement I moved around the room just as much as the students moved around so that I could keep
a close eye on as many students as possible and let them know that I was engaged in what they were doing as well.
Positive Praise
Positive phrases that I used during this activity to keep the students motivated and excited were: You are all doing an
excellent job! I see some very stealthy predators lurking around the room! We have some excellent hunters! I try my best to let
my students know when they are doing a great job at anything and everything. I feel that I used a lot of positive praise during this
activity only because this is something that I normally do and try to do very frequently on a daily basis. I definitely could have used
this as a technique to cure some disobedient behavior from students and this is something that I would like to work on in my
classroom everyday.
