HLAC 1096 Lifelong Wellness Application Paper


Write a paragraph on each of the following:
1. What did you learn about lifelong wellness from taking this activity class?

I was surprised at the sheer amount of information and resources that this class
offered. Although I have thought about it since I started my med school pre reqs, I
had not yet began to keep track of my food intake. Due to my back surgery I have
had to reduce my calorie intake, as my physical activity level has decreased so
much. I was very excited to use the food tracking software and I was especially
interested in the chapter on back pain. I learned a lot about the muscles in my
back and I will be sure to use the exercises and the proper training techniques to
continue strengthening my back and recovering from my injury.
2. How would you apply this information to your life?
I am going to take the information I learned in this class and the goals that I made
and continue to strengthen my injuries and work up to marathon training once
again. I will always think about my muscle groups and to watch my breathing and
sets as I work on weight training. The nutrition analyzer is a nice tool that I can see
myself using for a very long time. I am excited to work on expanding my diet and
adding new sources of protein.

3. What is your intention to continue to exercise in your life and why?


My intention to continue exercise in my life is to to strengthen my injuries and work
up to marathon training once again. Before my injury I had started training and ran
four different marathons. It became super important to me to work on my stamina
and durability as I was hoping to go into a law enforcement position. I still plan on
doing this, although it may just take a little longer. Once I am in my job, I would
need to keep myself in good shape in order to continue doing it.

4. General ideas for improving this course?


I think this was a great course. I learned a ton of very useful stuff. I can't think of
anything I would add to this course except for maybe a discussion or two, even if
they aren't required. I would have loved to discuss other fitness options and
exercises with others class mates.
