Students are continuing to look deeper into the working economy around us.

and skills.
Assessment
(formative and
summative)
Identify those students
(individuals or groups) in
your class who will need
special attention and
describe the level of
support you plan on
giving them. Refer back
to the survey you did of
your class.

Students have been exposed to advertisements for much of their lives.

They bring these past viewings to this lesson.
Students will create an advertisement for their product, including an
incentive, and present it to the class. Peers will identify the product they
are selling and the motivation there is to buy it.
Students may create advertisements in groups.

Materials-what materials
(books, handouts, etc) do
you need for this lesson
and do you have them?

Different ads: pictures, videos, recordings, etc.

Video cameras
Posters
Construction paper
Computers
Glue
Scissors

Do you need to set up

your classroom in any
special way for this
lesson? If so, describe it.

Students will remain at desks during the instruction time. They may then
move around the room in order to create their advertisements.

It costs a lot of money for businesses to get their advertisements out there.
During the 2005 Super Bowl (10 years ago) companies paid more than $80,000 per
SECOND for advertising.
Businesses create advertisements to create awareness of their products, just as we
would put up flyers if we were having a bake sale during the lunch hour.
Businesses attempt to target a specific consumer with the type of advertisements
they put out.

Developm
ent

Companies make up incentives to motivate consumers to buy their product.

Show students different ads and try to identify the incentive, good, and the possible
competition.
I like to show the Snuggie commercial because its incentives are semi-ridiculous

Make T-Chart if need be.
Have groups of students choose a product and create an advertisement to show the
class. They may choose to make a radio announcement, video commercial, or flyer.
When the students are done they may show the rest of the class their
advertisements.
Closure

While students are listening or looking at the advertisements, they should be

identifying the incentive to buy the product.
