Tuesday: 13th October 2015 (Math Number 2)
On the 13th of October I taught KG1 students for the first time; my lesson was about number
two. First of all after the assembly I sat on the circle with the students and I did the daily
routine the teacher always do which is greeting, saying the Doaa, choosing the assistant and
taking attendance. After the daily routine I started the lesson by reviewing the previous
math lesson with the students which is about number one (1) and I did a small activity which
is let the students find number one from the numbers basket and show it to their classmates
then I asked two students to come every time to play the chairs game, but in this game I
brought one chair and I asked both of the students to run around it and both of them should
sit together on the chair and if they didn't both of them lose, I did this game to develop their
physical skills and make them more interested to take the new lesson also I wanted to teach
the students to share and cooperate with each other. After the chairs game I introduce to
the students number two using a card that has a picture of two objects and number two and
I asked the students to write number two on the air using their fingers. I did a small activity
for the groups to check if the students acknowledge number two and check if they can
identify the objects that demonstrate number two. This activity was giving students a paper
that have number two and an envelope that have the body parts and students will search for
the part of the body that have two "for example two hands, two eyes" and stick it in the
table under number two. I did the activity in groups because according to Vygotsky children
learn better in groups because they share, communicate and cooperate with their peers;
also this helps them to build strong relationship with each other. (Social Development Theory
(Vygotsky), 2014) After the groups activity I did tree different activities for the student's
different levels, the first activity was for the low level I gave students a worksheet that has
number 2 and colors and I asked them to color number 2. The second activity was for
students in the medium level I gave each student colorful cubs and a card that has number
two and I asked them to demonstrate number two using the cubes. The third activity which
was for the high level students I gave each students an envelope that have numbers from 1
to 5 and circles from 1 to 5 also, and behind the envelope there are two pictures, on the first
picture one finger is raised and the second one two fingers are raised, students had to find
number one and one circle and put it beside the one finger then they searched for number
two and the two circles and put it beside the two fingers. Some students faced difficulties
with the activities so when I was moving around to check their work I helped them by
explaining more about the activities. When the students finished the activities I asked them
to clean their places and return the papers in the envelops and the colors to their places and
give it back to me, when they returned everything they went to the playground to have their
break.
I used variety of learning styles such as visual and physical. The visual learning style is when I
showed the students the colorful number 2 flash card. The physical learning style is when i
let the students move over the chairs and when I gave them the activities that have writing;
those activities helped the students to develop their fine and gross motor skills.
