Class Overview based on observations and data

Culture

All my students come from Christian family. Their parents are members of churches.

Race & Ethnicity

23 students in my classroom: 21 Caucasians, 1 Arab-Caucasian, 1 Native American-Caucasian

Social SystemsPeers & Family

In this class, the family socioeconomic background ranges. Some students are from wealthy families,
whereas some students receive free or reduced lunch and apply for financial aid. 6 out of 23 students
see schools social work for home-life and anxiety. Afterschool, students will play with their friends
living in their neighbored or their siblings; they will do some outside activities with their churches,
and play in different sports teams. 5 students siblings go to Dutton Christian as well.
Students in Miss Ks class are all very polite, respectful, and obedient they raise hands before they
speak in class; they never interrupt the others speaking; they follow teachers instruction and remind
others to follow the instruction, such as being quiet in the hallway.
All my students come from Christian families. They do devotion every morning and pray before
lunch. Through devotion and prayer sharing, students become more empathic and considerate - they
care about each other, pray for each other, and comfort and encourage each other.

Moral, Spiritual, and


Faith Development

Their faith comes out from their behaviors if someone need help in doing homework or using
technology, they would volunteer to go to help. If they made mistakes, their teacher would pray with
them and talk about what does God what them to do, and they would read Gods words.
Their faith also comes out from their actions. All students at Dutton Christian take turns doing the
recycling during the recess every day to learn how to take care of Gods creation. Throughout the
school semester, every class have at least 2 service learning opportunity to show Gods love and grace
to other people, such as singing hymns in nursery house.

Attention & Memory

Only 1 student is diagnosed with ADHD. She has wiggle seat and takes medicine to deal with
depression. Some other students play with putty to stay focused. Their attention span is about the same
as their age around 10 minutes. That is why she tries to have students do some physical movements
between classes. None of students in Miss Ks class have memory problem.

Language

All of the students come from English-speaking families. English is their first language and they all
speak English very fluently.

Ordering

All of the students play on the playground before the school starts. They go outside again at recess at
10, 12:30, and 2 for 15 minutes each (and half an hour from 10:00-10:30 on Friday). Students run
around on the playground, play soccer, basketball, volleyball, and some other games. If it is raining
outside, students in Miss K class will stay inside class. Some of them do the physical movements from
Gonoodle, whereas some students play board games on the carpet. Every morning, they follow the
instructions written are the white board and do the assignments one by one. They sort their homework
in their homework binder, and they see patterns in in writing and math.

Higher Order Thinking

Students in Miss Ks class can generate conclusions by manipulating and observing scientific
experiments. They can brainstorm creative names or titles for their projects or art works. They can
summarize a short passages in logic. They also can complete multistep mathematical problems.

Ability & Disability

None of my students have special needs. 1 girl 3 out of 23 students are in academically gifted and
talented program. 2 students go to break-out group for language arts, and 5 go to break-out group for
math.
