I believe Classroom Management is the key to an environment

where learning can take place and students can feel safe participating.
I hope to create an environment that is conducive to learning and
involves all my students. I believe the most important part of
classroom management is not the behavior problems but creating a
good rapport with the students, encouraging them to succeed and
setting high expectations for them. Above all, students need to feel
safe in my classroom.
Classroom Rules/ Basic Classroom Expectations:
These rules were talked about at the start of the year. Students are to
follow the golden rules of our class so that every student feels safe and
secure in the classroom. Students have signed a contract with parents
stating that they understand the rules of the classroom and
understand any consequences for breaking the rules. The rules are:
Be Respectful.
What does this mean? Listen to your teacher. Listen to your
classmates. When another student or the teacher is talking there
should be no texting, talking, etc. Full attention needs to be given to
the speaker. Furthermore, the classroom should be a safe environment
where everybody feels safe and welcome. Infringements on this policy
will not be tolerated.
Be Responsible.
Come to class on time and ready to learn. Have all the materials you
need with you. Use your class time effectively. Work hard and try your
best.
Be Honest.
If you do not understand something, ask for help! This is a safe
classroom environment so all questions are welcome.

Be Polite.
This is a social studies class, so we will have opinions to share. Try to
express your opinion in a nice way, and remember it is okay to
disagree but there is no need to be rude. Be polite to the speaker. Be
polite to your fellow students and be polite to your teacher.
School Policies:
This timetable has a RTI (Response to Intervention) period from 2:39
to 3:05 for those junior/senior high students that teachers have
identified as needing more time to complete their understanding/or
offer enrichment. Elementary classes will utilize this same RTI concept
at different time for similar type activities designed to enhance
students learning and understanding. Identified jr/sr high students will
be required to join the teacher(s) during this period for more one on
one time on confusing concepts. All required students are expected to
participate in this program. Students choosing to ignore a teachers
directed request will face an after-school detention and/or an in-school
suspension to make up the time needed to improve their
understanding of course concepts. Any student behind on
assignments/homework come Friday morning will be required to attend
Friday afternoon school from noon 1:00 pm. This is intended to keep
students on time with assignments and to try and prevent the feeling
of exasperation and intimidation resulting from missing/late/incomplete
assignments that keep piling up one after another. Its our intent that
with our Monday to Thursday morning RTI, coupled with our regular
junior high study hall on Mon-Thursday afternoons that we will not have
many students being required to attend our Friday afternoon school.
Regular Friday dismissal for junior/senior students with no
lingering/missing/incomplete/poorly done assignments will continue to

be at noon. Students who are late two or more times in a week are
required to attend Friday school to make up for lost learning time.
Rewrites Policy:
Students are allowed to rewrite a test. However, if a student wishes to
do so he or she must attend at least 2 tutorials and have all their
homework in. The student needs to also write the test during Friday
school. I will take the better of the two grades.
Grade 7 Class Dojo:
The grade 7 class uses Class Dojo. As a class, we decided upon a set of
expectations and there are consequences for students who fail to meet
those expectations. They get a warning, then ten minutes after class,
tutorial and finally Friday school. For class incentives, 30 individual
points is a dojo change, 350 points is a class treat and 400 points is
pick your seat day.
Discipline Plan:
Students are given a warning, their name is written on the board. One
check mark beside the name will cause the student ten minutes after
school with me doing social studies work. Two check marks will give a
mandatory tutorial and three checkmarks will mean Friday school.
Students who have their name on the board can get it erased by
stopping the behavior that got their name on the board (such as
talking out of turn). Students know that disruptive behavior will get
names on the board.
Classroom Environment:
My classes have a seating plan. The students sit in a seating plan that
is determined by the teacher. Students are to work collaboratively in

their groups. I maintain a positive classroom environment by ensuring

my attitude is always positive. I lead the class so I need to be
enthusiastic. I also make sure I am patient, warm and demonstrate a
willingness to try new things and learn. I think this translates to my
students. I try to maintain organization in class. I put the agenda on
the board. I also have ongoing assignments due on certain days so the
students know what to expect. Classroom expectations are known and
the students are able to understand what is expected of them. I use
monitoring strategies to minimize opportunities for off-task or
disruptive behaviors. If a student is being disruptive, he or she may be
asked to work at a spot by himself or herself separated from the group.
I give positive feedback to set the tone for the class. I also use a
silence signal to bring the class back to focus. I ensure to always show
my students respect.
