Generation of IPads, Good or Bad?
Technology has developed so much that it has become hard to decide whether this
invention is a bad thing or a good thing to a society. Having a life without technology is next to
impossible. Todays generation depends completely on technology to do any kind of work. A few
decades ago, nobody had imagined that technology would grow so much that human life would
be completely making their future and dreams come true by using technology. One is so
dependent on technology that he cannot even get out of his bed without checking his phone and
social media sites. There are many uses of technology, one of the major difference that is created
is in the education sector. The educational system has used technology so much to make the work
easier for the staff and the students as well. Many schools have adopted technology in place of
the traditional way of teaching. But this, in a way, is wrong because it makes the students totally
dependent on technology to do any work, especially when the students are made to use of
technology from a very young age.
Using technology for school and other things is important, but also it is making everyone
lazy. The use of iPads and tablets in schools by the teachers, professors and students has
developed to such a level that nobody is using the books and pens for taking down notes, neither
are professors using the blackboard teaching methods for giving lectures in the class. This

finishes the traditional way of learning ability schools and it makes the students and the
professors so dependent on these advancements of technology that it literally makes them feel
like they will not be able to do anything without it. If students are exposed to such technologies
since their childhood, starting with elementary school itself, then that will have a huge amount of
negative impact on their life as they grow up with technology being with them throughout their
hard times. It not only makes them get involved with technology with every situation of life but
also makes them lazy and dependent on it for every little thing to do in the normal day to day
life. Technology is making a person lazy in many ways, it can be seen that people use calculators
to do even minor calculations, secondly students set up reminders to remember the deadlines and
the due dates, thirdly they would Google anything if they have a doubt about, instead of
remembering these things as they would be beneficial for them and not rely totally on
technology. They do not want to go out for outdoor activities but instead rely on sitting on home
and chatting instead of actually going and meeting the person. This leads to their emotions being
controlled.
Presently, every parent is also using iPads and tablets for controlling their childrens
emotions and also by telling things like if a kid does something good he will be given the iPad or
tablet to play or else he will not play on it. This has a great deal of effect on the minds of the
young children who think that tablets are the only way of keeping their cool. Child psychologists
at Boston University School of Medicine in the US found that children who heavily used
devices, such as tablets, iPads and mobile phones were unable to control their emotions
(Nishizaki). They should be exposed to real life interactions and be thought to socially interact
with people. According to a poll conducted on behalf of industry giant Pearson Education, in
2014 approximately 66% of elementary school students report using tablets regularly and 71%

claim that it would be favorable to use them more often in their studies (Nishizaki). This
explains that the tablets usage is quite common nowadays and is rising. But if one person sees
only one side, it seems like it is beneficial, but on the other hand one can clearly see that there
are a lot of things that arent seen like the benefits are there, but as well as the disadvantages are
the students becoming completely dependent on the technology and do not use their mind in
overcoming daily issues. This shows that different school use so many things like these and
think that it will help them. It eventually makes them lazy and feel the need of using it more and
more.
Technology advancement is important for everyone as it makes the work easy, but being
completely dependent on technological advancement makes a person very lazy and handicapped
if the person is without these devices, like tablets and iPads. But completely having one to be
dependent on devices, such as these, will make one get into trouble, like if one does not actually
go outside and suddenly if that person is told to go out; if he forget his mobile phone he cannot
go, as he is dependent completely on the way GPS guides. As mentioned in the article named
"Has Technology Made Us Lazy and Dependent?" different things have led humans to become
independent on technology, whether it is from remembering phone numbers to without referring
the Internet, it has completely made the society dependent on technology. Technology has made
life so convenient for us that its almost scary to think of what would happen if we had to go
without our favorite gadget for an extended period of time. We have to face facts: Technology
has made us lazy (Has Technology Made Us Lazy and Dependent). This explains that it has
made a person in general extremely lazy for thinking about things without any help. One can also
see that if a person is shown to use technology at a younger age, then that person would not have
anything to actually think about he would be so used to use the tablets, iPads or any devices that

he would not be able to survive without it. If kids did their calculations on their personal devices
and then suddenly if they need to do a calculation without the device they would completely
become helpless. IPads, tablets might improve the learning experience but they have way more
disadvantages.
IPads, tablets are widely being used by schools as a part of the curriculum. Similarly it is
mentioned in the article The Effects of Tablets on Learning: Does Studying from a Tablet
Computer Affect Student Learning Differently Across Educational Levels. The author talks
about different ways in which the tablets and devices, such as iPads have affected learning in
ability in a negative way. The author tells about different researches that were conducted and
they came down to a conclusion that devices such as these have made the possessive ability to
learn become really slow. Elementary schools around the world have integrated tablet
computers into the core of student curriculum with the hopes of enhancing the process of
learning in the earlier stages of development (Nishizaki) This explains the different ways in
which the schools have become accustomed to the usage of these devices. Making these devices
compulsory also has made students spend money on these devices and apart from spending the
money, the students tend to become completely independent on these devices. It would impact
the students in a negative way because they would not actually concentrate on reading and
writing on paper. The ability of the students to write about things also comes into question as the
kids would not be used to writing things on the paper. It is something that is really common
nowadays as everyone prefers to type things on their devices. This would make the kids
extremely slow when it comes to writing things or doing calculations on a piece of paper without
an electronic device. The students would also become lazy when it come to thinking because
they would just copy and paste the question that they have on Google and would get the right

answer for it in less than a second. The question that arises here is that it affects ones thinking
ability and they would not prefer to learn things and formulas because they could just use their
device as a thing to help them.
Use of computer, laptop and tablets had improved the way information could be
presented to the students or in a meeting. It has made the work easier and efficient as well. Many
would agree that every student needs to have a laptop or a tablet as a part of his educational
program, but these uses should be limited and the students in elementary schools shouldnt be
allowed to use such tablets and depend completely on it. It also leads to parents being
pressurized for new gadgets because of the competition that is being developed due to the
advancements in the newer tablets. Parents should think and see how their kids are making use of
the tablets and the laptops and restrict the overuse of such things if its not related to any learning
process. Students should be exposed to the traditional learning process and made to socially
interact with the professors and teachers and other students. This will not only make the students
socially active, but will also help them not be completely dependent on technology for any work.
