Abortion
A Bibliographic Essay
Chris Morrison
Ottawa University

Abstract
The Bibliographic essay that I am writing about is Abortion. The question that I have
come up for is Should certain abortion be illegal? The way I went about my topic was first
creating my outline and choosing what main categories I should write about. When I got a clear
outline I went into deep thoughts with all my 12 sources that I found. After I found my sources I
read them carefully and I summarized them. My sources that I found have a lot of intriguing
information including womens emotions after abortion, if all abortions are equal, different races
and there abortions, etc. for womens emotions after abortion I have different sources from
different websites explaining how women feel and what they do. For if all abortions are equal I
have sources with crimes with abortion like rape and I have sources that talk about not being able
to afford it or to just see if you are ready to grow up and care for another human being. For the
different races I have some articles that give some statistics on different women who have an
abortion like your race, age, reasoning, school education, work, family life, married, in a
relationship etc. for this paper a lot of information is covered and talked about.

Essay
Abortion dates back in history to the late 1800s and still happens in todays world. Abortions
happen almost daily throughout the world. Different kinds of people get abortions all over the
world. People with different skin colors, different backgrounds and different life styles. Its not
just one certain race or certain people that come from the same place. Each person has a different
reasoning on to why they want to get an abortion. Abortion, the termination of pregnancy
before the embryo or fetus is able to live outside the uterus.

"Abortion." Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia (2015): 1p. 1. Funk & Wagnalls
New World Encyclopedia. Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

The Source I got my definition about abortion is from EbscoHost. It is a very reliable source
and has a lot more information in the article. The Article talks about many other interesting
things including some scientific names for abortion and what they mean. It talks briefly on the
comparison with other countries with Americas abortion law. This is a very useful site because
of all the definitions and explanations if gives you about abortion.
As of today abortion is legal in all fifty states in the United States. It has been legal in the
United States for quite a long time. Women can get abortions for any reasonings that she
chooses. 21.6 million Unsafe abortions happen each year due to the faculty at the healthcare
building being untrained. When getting an abortion you are putting yourself in danger because
you are trusting a nurse or doctor with a very big procedure that are not fully qualified. You
really want to put some time into what doctor you want because some can be more qualified than
others.

"Safe Abortion." Bulletin Of The World Health Organization 93.9 (2015): 593-593 1/4p.
CINAHL Complete. Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

The article is very good and credible. It discusses many different things but most importantly
discussing the lack of physicians need for a safe procedure for abortion. They aim more towards
the government to provide more knowledgeable doctors.
Everybody has their own opinion on abortions. Some people think only certain kinds of
people get them but that is not true. Every different race has gotten an abortion, but there are
some different races and age groups that get them more than others. The centers of disease
control did a study on what kind of women tend to have abortions. The study shows that African
American women and Hispanic women become sexually active at a younger age than white
females. Therefore when it comes to having an abortion African American women and Hispanic
women have a higher percentage of getting an abortion over white females. The study also shows
the white women make a bigger income and are more likely to have their own means of
transportation and access to more resources than African Americans and Hispanics.

Medoff, Marshall. "Race, Restrictive State Abortion Laws And Abortion Demand."
Review Of Black Political Economy 41.2 (2014): 225-240. Business Source Premier.
Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

This article Race, Restrictive state Abortion Laws and Abortion Demand from EbscoHost
discusses a lot about what kinds of different people get abortion. Not only does this talk about
Races with abortions it discusses old laws and newer laws. It also talks about older cases that
went to court to get the laws passed. It gives some stats and percentages on the different women

that will have an abortion and questions whether or not to allow more or less access to certain
women based on the statistics.
When women decide to have an abortion it is a crucial decision they have to make
because it does not just affect themselves it can affect a lot of other people including the baby
even though they dont know much. Even though the baby is still in the mothers womb it still
has rights and it also has a heartbeat which means someone is killing a baby that is alive.
Fetuses are persons and/or get some of the rights of persons from early on in their development,
particularly the right of inviolability. The baby might not know what is going on but thats not
the point the point is that the baby is alive and it has a heartbeat and is breathing and growing
inside you so it is a human.

Criminalization Of Abortion For Rape And Incest?." Journal Of Law, Medicine & Ethics
43.1 (2015): 87-104 18p. CINAHL Complete. Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

This article Are All Abortions Equal? gives a lot of good scholarly information. The article
discusses a lot of very interesting topics and explains some very interesting points. It first talks
about the baby when it is still inside the mother. The article later goes on to discuss very deep
points about a women getting raped and the abortion process with that. The article Are All
Abortions Equal says that the trauma and the pregnancy have the same cause and are
inextricably linked such that one cannot end one without the other.
Abortion is a big topic and many people have different thoughts on the subject whether it
should or should not be legal. When kids that are under the age of 18 are pregnant and want to
get an abortion the United States Supreme Court law is that they must have consent from a

parent. A reason they have consent is because you are not technically an adult yet and you cannot
make such a big decision like that on your own at an age like that. According to the article
Attitudes Toward Parental Involvement Clauses in Minor Abortion Laws and Individual
Differences in Religion, Political Affiliation, and Attribution style among College Students as of
2009, 18 states require one parent consent, 2 states require two parent consent, 10 states require
one parent notification, and 1 state requires two parent notifications.

Political Affiliation, And Attribution Style Among College Students." Individual
Differences Research 11.2 (2013): 59-69. Psychology and Behavioral Sciences
Collection. Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

This source has a lot of very good information. It is a good place to learn about people that
are under the adult age and them having an abortion. It also gives you information on what you
need from a legal guardian if you are trying to get an abortion while under the adult age. It talks
some about religions and what their thoughts are on abortion. Also has some college students
opinions and thoughts on abortion with younger kids and older adults.
A lot of people deal with complications during their time of being pregnant. Many different
things can come up unexpected when you are pregnant. Some people just are not grown up
enough to have a child or maybe they just are not ready to become parents and have
responsibilities. In the article Expectant Fathers, Abortion, and Embryos it says for obvious
reasons, abortion is often described as a womens issue. The characterization is understandable

only women undergo the abortion procedure or face the bodily impact of an unwanted
pregnancy, and women generally shoulder the vast majority of the burdens of raising a child.

Purvis, Dara E. "Expectant Fathers, Abortion, And Embryos." Journal Of Law, Medicine
& Ethics 43.2 (2015): 330-340 11p. CINAHL Complete. Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

The Article Expectant Fathers, Abortion, and Embryos is a really good article and has a lot
of big information on father expecting a child. It talks about how the dad reacts when talking
about abortions and what some of them say about it. It also talks about how they can be nervous
there first time having a child and not knowing what to do or how to care for one. It gives some
information on the supreme courts thoughts on the topic abortion and what some of the laws they
have given us to go by.
One main thing that can happen is that you can unexpectedly become pregnant in many
different ways. You can accidentally become pregnant or you can become a rape victim and you
can become pregnant like that. Not everyone wants to become pregnant and some people it is
just bad timing for them because they just are not ready to grow up and accept the fact they need
to care for another human being or maybe they just cant afford it at the time.
The media has a lot to do with peoples opinions on topics they dont really know much
about. When the media talks about abortion they say so much about it you dont know what to
believe or say. The author Katie Yoder wrote in the article Top 10 Ways Media Spin Abortion as
Moral says that abortion is a good thing for women because they can make the decision on their
own and that its a positive thing. Also she says that an abortion is a womens pursuit of
happiness and the reason she says that is because the women has the right to get one or not.
Another thing she says is it is good for the child because that if the mother has an abortion then

that means she didnt want you but if she didnt have an abortion then your mother would care
for you. Abortions make women feel like they have a word or say in things and that they can do
what they want whenever they want.

Yoder, Katie. "Top 10 Ways Media Spin Abortion As 'Moral,' 'Social Good'." National
Right To Life News (2014): 9. MasterFILE Premier. Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

The Article Top 10 Ways Media Spin Abortion as Moral, Social Good has some good
information on womens rights and thoughts towards abortion. The article says that for women
and them being able to decide if they want to have an abortion or not helps them feel free by
them saying what they want. The article has a few sayings in here from other magazines or
newspaper companies and their thoughts on abortion. They give good advice on that and the
media spin with it.
According to the article Mans Involvement in the Experiment of Abortion and the Dynamics
of the Couples Relationship it says during a pregnancy women tend to get moody and a guy just
has to learn and accept it. When a couple is trying to decide on whether or not to have an
abortion both people need to have a say in it and need to both discuss it thoroughly. If a man
really wants to become a father then he will fight to keep his wife from having an abortion. If
you are a couple and you both are wondering if you should keep the kid or you should have an
abortion then you really need to sit down and discuss some very important things. The author (D,
Nazari) put some questions for couples to discuss when contemplating abortion. You should both
sit down and ask if you both are ready to have a child. Also you can talk about how you would be
talking about taking a childs life and if you and your spouse would be up for that and how you

would feel after. You also could talk about what your future would be like if you decided to have
the abortion and if you would still have a relationship together.

Naziri, D. "Man's Involvement In The Experience Of Abortion And The Dynamics Of

The Couple's Relationship: A Clinical Study." European Journal Of Contraception &
Reproductive Health Care 12.2 (2007): 168-174. Academic Search Premier. Web. 21 Nov.
2015.

The Article Mans Involvement in the Experiment of Abortion and the Dynamics of the
Couples Relationship is a very good article filled with lots of scholarly information. It
discusses how both partners need to have a say when you are contemplating abortion. It gives
some questions that you should both ask yourselves and how your life will be in the future. The
author went around to different countries to see how they handle abortion, in the article it tells a
little about each trip that he made and what they do.
Women tend to have very different emotions at very random times when they are pregnant.
According to the article written by (Rocca, Corinne H) womens emotions raise when denied an
abortion. The results show that the women that were denied an abortion felt more regret and
anger and less relief and happiness among women who got the abortion.

Rocca, Corinne H., et al. "Women's Emotions One Week After Receiving Or Being
Denied An Abortion In The United States." Perspectives On Sexual & Reproductive
Health 45.3 (2013): 122-131. Consumer Health Complete - EBSCOhost. Web. 21 Nov.

The article Womens Emotions One Week after Receiving or being denied an Abortion has a
lot of very good information and a lot of statistics on different women with abortions. The study
included all different kinds of women including race, age, married/dating, education level etc. if
you are trying to learn more about how women react under abortion circumstances then this
would be a very good article to read.
When having an abortion you cant make everyone happy on the choice you make. You have
to make a decision that makes you happy and that will help you out. In this article written by
(Project Rachel Ministry) they pick one girl and describes what happens to her. The girl gets
pregnant and her boyfriend does not care for the kid so she decides to get an abortion. The article
says that society says abortions will solve your problems. They dont tell you how you feel after
its all over and that you will regret it sometimes. A study in the article shows that slightly over
one fourth of women (age 15 and up) in the United States have undergone abortion.

Vandegaer, Paula. "After the Abortion." Project Rachel HopeAfterAbortionorg. N.p.,

2011. Web. 21 Nov. 2015

This article that I found is a very interesting article. It tells about a girl that got pregnant and
college that had an abortion. A lot of people were telling her that abortion solves your problems
but for her it made them worse because she felt bad for taking the kids life. Project Rachel is a
foundation that opened 15 years ago. It is an outreach of the Catholic Church to women, men,
and families that have been affected by abortion. This article is for more of the people that are
catholic because it tells their beliefs on whether or not you should have an abortion or not and if
you have one then what to do.

Having an abortion can be very hard on you and or your family. Some people dont know
what to do after having an abortion. They dont all know what they will feel after they have one.
According to an abortion website called I Had an Abortion women feel many different things
after an abortion including denial, difficulty dealing with emotions, guilt, shame, suicidal
thoughts, etc.

"A Hope Center - I Had an Abortion." A Hope Center - I Had an Abortion. N.p., 2006.
Web. 21 Nov. 2015.

The information for this is from a website that is a place that helps women with their
abortions. The website gives you information on different emotions women feel after having an
emotion. It gives you places that you can call to talk about it or to set up an appointment to talk
face to face if needed. The phone line is open 24 hours a day. It also has real abortion stories on
the website for people to read about. It also isnt just for women its for men and teens that need
to talk about things. If you are needing someone to talk to or need to look at other peoples
stories about abortion then this would be a very good website for you to use.
When discussing such a large topic like abortion many different conversations can come up
about it. There are people that are all for abortion and believe that the women should be able to
do whatever she wants because that is her right and there are people that think abortion should be
illegal and that you shouldnt have the right to kill an innocent baby that has done nothing
wrong. If you are struggling with your abortion you can go to a clinic or your doctor and just talk
with someone to get through it. If someone is contemplating on whether or not to get an abortion
they really they think about it long and hard because it is a very long and hard decision because

you are losing a child and you really just have to understand what all is going on in your life and
need to see if you are ready for a kid or not.
