This article is about applied mechanics. It talks about the practical applications of
mechanics, including the flow of a liquid under pressure and the fracture of a solid from an
applied force. All of these are essential to mechanical engineering.
The Editor-in-Chief is Chuan Chiang Chen. Dr. Chen earned his B.S. degree from
National ChiaoTung University in Taiwan. He got his M.S. and Ph.D. form the Ohio State
University. His degrees were all in the mechanical engineering field. Currently, he is an associate
professor at the California State Polytechnic University. Another main editor is Dr. Ahmed
Hassanein. He is a professor and head of the school of nuclear engineering at Purdue University.
Professor Hassanein has more than 3 years of experience in research and development in the
fields of nuclear and plasma physics, engineering, and material science. Professor Hassanein is
an internationally recognized as one of the worlds leaders in the area of modeling and
benchmarking material responses to different radiation and particle sources.
In the practical application, there are many factors influencing the machine elements.
These factors include, but are not limited to, stresses, deformations and other failure criteria.
These are then applied to significant and critical parts of machines such as gears, belts, bearings
and springs. External forces represent the other actions of other objects. Mechanisms are also
represented in this article. It is the fundamental physical or chemical processes involved in or
responsible for an action, reaction or other natural phenomenon. It is often defined by a
combination of resistant or rigid bodies. This is an essential piece to know based on structures.
Mechanisms can be used to support different structures and stabilize others, such as bridges and

buildings. Mechanical properties and fluid bodies are also introduced as subtopics in this article.
These involve how a material reacts to physical forces and the application of the laws of force
and motion to fluids. These topics are often included in other branches of engineering, such as
aerospace engineering. It is applied mostly to aerodynamics of planes and other vehicles.
Thermodynamics is also an essential part of this article as it relates heavily on physics concerned
with heat and temperature. It also relates to how it relates to energy and work. These elements
often work in unison with each other. Some concepts often go hand in hand to ensure the success
of engineering works.
This article is very informative on different concepts. It is well explained in a way that
most future engineers will understand. They are clearly defined and explained. The basic criteria
of this article is typically the basic concepts required in the field of mechanical engineering. This
article cites its sources very neatly. However, there are things that this article can be improved
upon. It could include research projects and the actual impact of their findings. They should
include how they conducted their research and the data collected. It is an essential part of this
article. This article could also use a little less peer reviewers. The way it was edited took away
from the true essence of the paper.
