    Osteomyelitis is inflammation of bone caused by infection, usually by pyogenic bacteria. The infection can remain localized or spread through the bone marrow, cortex, cancellous tissue, and periosteum. It is caused by infectious agents like bacteria entering through the bloodstream or developing after trauma or surgery. Common causes are Staphylococcus aureus, other Staphylococcus species and Streptococcus species.
