be teaching the song to them aurally
5. Guitar- 1 guitar for myself to play.
Procedures
1. Sing a greeting song song, have the children kids sing with good
posture and loud voices (3 min.)
2. We will sing El Cancion de los NumerosLearn a new song in
Spanish based on counting? I will do this by first teaching how to
say the numbers 1-10 in Spanish. Then I will sing the song before
I have the kids repeat after me. Therefore the method in which
the kids will the learn the song is by immersion. I will also be
playing along on guitar. (5-7min.)
3. Identify the names of any percussion I get my hands on and
handout to students. (3 min.) This depends largely on what was
avaible which at the time was hand drum, tambourines, egg
shakers, slap stick wood blocks. I assume there was about 5
instruments of each type that I had mentioned before.
4. Have the class repeat the names of the various percussion
instruments for memorization (1 min.)
5. Play loud and soft dynamic games with visual guides. I will have
a poster or sheet of paper that has the loud/soft dynamics that
represents when the kids should play loud and soft. (2 min.) The
symbols were Mr. Mouse for soft and Mrs. Lion for loud.
5. Play to slow songs and fast songs to learn about tempo with the
recordings of Mexican folk music. This will happen in conjunction
when I play the folk music. When I play the song whether the
tempo is fast or slow. Then I will ask the children play randomly
at the speed in which represents the speed of the song they are
listening to (5 min.)
6. Put the percussion instruments away for the next section.
7. Learn about Folk Music of Mexico. I will do this by playing
different styles of folk music from various regions of Mexico. For
example I will play a Son Jalisence that originates from the Jalisco
Province of Mexico. (5 Mmin.)
8. Sing good bye song (1 min.)

Evaluation:
While I did my best to approach this lesson with the intent to
enrich the cultural understanding of Mexico to the students though
music, it did not look like many of the students took away much from
the lesson. The transitions used for the lesson didnt quite help either
and the students appeared to have fun but there was little material
that appeared to have stayed with them after the lesson was over.
What needs to happen for the future is that there has to be theme or
musical idea that the lesson revolves around. Then deriving a lesson
plan around an idea will help in the cohesive effort of future lessons.
Ideally the kids would be able to have retained more if this lesson
wasnt so filled with different not aligning ideas and musical activities.
Over all I just need to have better constructed plans that are more
cohesive and revolves around a central Idea. I didnt see the children
take away anything from this lesson that could help with them
musically. I have failed.
Extension:
My future lesson plan I wish to try out is one that I tried to
implement last year. It will be to learn an African stick passing game
while learning to sing a new song From Ghanaian culture. I will make
sure that the children get the full benefit of learning a new culture and
appreciating its music. I will have better prepared a lesson plan and
know every single piece of equipment I will need to better enrich the
experience for the children. If I were to implement this lesson plan
again I would make sure that the children would only have to worry
about either loud vs. soft dynamics in percussion playing and dancing
to Mexican music and appreciating its cultural significance.
