Annotation
Social media changed it from
us writing letters and calling
house phones to just looking
at our cell phones. There was
a lot of negative feedback
about how social media
affected relationships. Social
media can lead to jealously
which is the number one
cause of problems and
arguments in relationships.
Some people use social media
to intentionally hurt their
partners. People use social
media to make it look like
they have more friends than
they actually do. Social media
tempts people to talk to
people that they are trying to
avoid. Social media us a
doorway to lying and
cheating. Social media can
lead to spying and paranoia.
Social media makes it easy to
meet large numbers of
people. Social media helps
people to communicate.
Studies have linked social
support to positive mental
health. People with more
social relationships live
longer than people with fewer
social relationships. Social
media makes it easy for
people to keep in touch.
People tend to show positive
aspects of their lives on social
media rather than negative
ones. Social media
relationships can be
supplemented with face-toface interactions and vice a
versa. Many feel like online
friendships are superficial and

Thoughts/ Connections
This article showed more of
the negative impacts of social
media. It may focus too much
on consensual relationship
instead of social relationships
and friendships. This article
had different aspects of
impacts of social media, but
all of the listed impacts can
somewhat be linked to
jealously. I believe that to an
extent, most people that have
used social media, including
myself, can see how this is
true.

This article had more of both

positive and negative impacts
of social media on the broad
topic of relationships and
friendships. This article made
me think of some aspects of
social media that I have
seemed to overlook.

this makes them feel lonely.
Posting on social media is an
immediately gratifying way
to connect with other people.
Social media allows us to
keep makers of social
experiences and events. On
average, friendships last
longer with the use of social
media. Social media
friendships are valuable, but
lack the feeling of closeness.

CNN studied 200 eighth

graders and their social media
accounts to see how young
teens interact on social media.
Many young teens have
heavy dependence or
addiction to social media and
checking their phones. Online
social media leads to anxiety
and compulsive checking.
Teens use social media to feel
out how popular they are. Of
the teens surveyed, 61% want
to see if their posts are getting
likes or comments, 36% want
to check and make sure that
they are not being left out by
their friends. 21% of these
kids wanted to make sure that
no one was saying anything
bad about them. Some teens
check their feeds of social
media more than 100 times a
day. There were a lot of uses
of profanity, sexual content
and references to drug use in
the social media accounts of
these kids. 15% of these teens

focused on the negative
impacts of social media on
teens. I have seen many of
these effects on people I
know this source supports my
preconceived notions.

with friends.
76% of teens use social
media. Some teens share
usernames of their social

meet in order to stay in touch.
8 out of 10 teens say that
social media makes them feel
more connected to what is
happening in their friends
lives. Smartphones make
social media easily accessible
at all times. Some teens feel
as if social media makes them
feel too connected to their
friends lives. Some teens feel
left out when they see their
friends posts on social media.
Teens portray themselves
differently of social media

Social skills are important for

how to make good choices.
Knowing what is acceptable

Maintaining good social skills
in children can lead to a safer

social skills help children

This article had both positive

and negative aspects of social
media on teens. This shows
why teens use social media so
often and why they post what
they post. No information in
this article were especially
interesting or surprising but I
think that these facts can
help.

This is an overview of the

effect of children having
social skills. Most things said
about social skills were
positive and a lack of social
skills seems to be negative. I

they dont have them. People
who are not dependent on
their phones get anxiety when
the phones make them feel
too reachable. Cell phones
make people anxious by
making them want to know
where people are and who
they are with. Cell phones
distract from what is going on
in real life. Electronic
interactions are replacing
other forms of interactions.
Who people contact on their
phones shows who they set as
priorities in their lives. Text
messages remind us of
relationships that make us
feel satisfied.
People tend to look at their
phones instead of talking to
strangers. People would be
more likely to stop bye and
say hello before smartphones
were invented. There is an
expectation to respond
immediately to what is being
sent to you. Cell phones make
it to where everyone knows
where everyone is all the

people from enjoying

instead they use their phones
to document it. Places created
to be social centers, like
Cafes, are now just places to
access social media and use

life has changed since the
invention of social media and
smartphones. This source
mostly hints that life was
better before these inventions.
