INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
The plan should guide the LEAs use of education technology for the next three
years.

List specific start and end dates (7/1/xx to 6/30/xx). Provide a brief overview of
the LEA, its location and demographics and/or share a link to the LEAs website.
Start date: 8/1/2016 to 6/1/2019
LEA Title: Gateway Science Academy of Saint Louis
School Profile: Gateway Science Academy is a four-year high school, providing

a rigorous math, science and technology-based curriculum to 475 students in


grades 6-12 in south St. Louis city. The school opened its doors to students in
August 2010 and will graduate its first senior class in the spring of 2016. GSA is
a public charter school accredited by the Missouri State Board of Education.

District superintendent, school principals, assistant principals, IT teachers,


department chairs, IT Staff, and PTO members participated to the District
Technology Committee, involved in development of the technology plan and
shared the tech plan document with community to collect feedbacks.
Stakeholders will guide the implementation of the technology plan and revise as
needed.

curricular and professional development goals

Summarize the plans major curricular and professional development


outcomes that are supported by research.

After reviewing the researches about the importance of technology planning we


recognized that implementing effective technology can help students meet or exceed the
state academic standards in all core subjects including Math, Science, Social Studies
and Language Arts. For the next three years, we plan to increase the level of technology
integration in the learning process for all of our students. We also plan to provide
effective professional development to help teachers become more comfortable
implementing technology to support student learning in the classroom.

CURRICULUM COMPONENT CRITERIA.


The Plan must establish clear goals and realistic strategy for using
telecommunications and information technology to improve education services.

Describe teachers' current access to instructional technology and current


use of digital tools.
1.What Technology is currently available to all teachers:
Laptops, Inter and intra district network routers and servers, desktops for each
classrooms, class projectors, smart boards, black and white printers, color printers, color
copy machines, black and white copy machines, tvs, Ipads, Chrome Books, document
cameras, electronic keyboard devices, video technologies such as video conferencing,
video streaming, broadcast video, Internet access and email services, Web 2.0 tools and
services, portable audio devices, and voice over IP phone services.

2. How are hardware and software currently being used in classrooms at each grdae
level in each content area?
All middle and high school teachers are provided with access to one laptop, one desktop
one document camera, and smartboard to be use in classrooms.
GSA also has two mobile laptop carts and one Chromebook cart (30 Chromebook) and
one iPad (30 IPads) cart that teachers can reserve for class projects.
There are thirty projectors installed in classrooms.
There are two PC lab available to teachers. These labs are open on Monday to Friday to
all students and teachers during school hours, lunch and after school enrichment program.
All students and teacher have an access to the following educational applications and
software.
Teachers have an access to SIS software to complete administrative tasks, find
resources or create materials related to teaching
IXL for Math and English (6-11 th grade level)
Renaissance Learning Accelerated Reade Program for middle school students
USA test Prep for highs schoolers ( ACT Prep, AP Prep
SPED team also has additional laptops and iPads for students with disabilities or
IEPs. (6-12th grade)
Naviance College and Career Planning Platform for high school students and
counselors, teachers
Rosetta Stone for Spanish and Turkish teachers (6-12th grade level)
Discovery Education Streaming for Science teachers (6-12th grade level)
Brain Pop for Science and Math teachers in middle school.
Microsoft Office for both middle and high school students

Describe students' current access to instructional technology and current


use of digital tools. Include a description about the LEA policy, practices,
and/or replacement policy that ensures equitable technology access for all
students.
1. Is technology available to all students?
Technology is available to students from 6th to 12th grade level in our district.
2. Do all student groups have equaled and appropriate access to the available
technology?
All GSA students have an access to tech tools for a variety of purposes including
reinforcement and practice during their both school and after school hours. However, the
length of time that technology available to students depends on grade levels or subjects.
The districts current VPN device is outmoded and cannot support all students/staff to
connect internet simultaneously. Therefore district plans to provide new firewall services
that allow large number of users can access internet and district resources.

3. How is technology used to extend the school day for students and to make
learning resources available during after school hours?

GSA students can use computer labs, Ipads or Chromebook from 2:40 pm to 3:50 pm
during weekdays except Wednesdays. Students also can come to school on Saturdays
to work on their project requires computer or internet access.

Describe goals and an implementation plan, with annual activities, for


using technology to improve teaching and learning. Describe how these
goals align to the LEA's curricular goals that are supported by other plans.
Describe how the LEA's budget (LCAP) supports these goals, and whether
future funding proposals or partnerships may be needed for successful
implementation.
What are the LEAs curriculum goals and plans for assisting students to
meet content standards and demonstrate college and career readiness?
The districts technology plan demonstrates the districts mission statement, The
mission of the Gateway Science Academy of St. Louis is to provide quality education
with an emphasis on science, mathematics, and technology while balancing all core
subjects. We strive to create an atmosphere that provides students, parents, and
teachers opportunities for continuous growth, enabling them to reach their highest
potential. GSAs technology plan has been designed as a curriculum driven plan based
on the State content standards which consist of specific standards that require
technology skills and performances to support districts mission and support students
and staff as a lifelong learners. It will be teachers responsibility to integrate technology
into their curriculum, provide challenging academic content including the state standards
and encourage students to use technology both inside and outside of the classroom. It
will be districts goal to provide an effective technology plan, technology tools and staff
development to support student learning.

How are/will Professional Learning Communities being used to ensure the


quality and implementation of the plan?

Curriculum directors, grade chairs, department chairs and school administrators will
monitor the technology uses and integration the technology into curriculum and provide
feedback to PLC annually at districts meeting. With a support from IT and curriculum
directors, teachers will create a lesson plans integrated with tech tools to make sure
students from 6th to 12th grade demonstrate the understanding of technology tools.
Teachers will create at least one assignment to evaluate students use of technology
skills related to grade level learning objectives.

How will technology be used to help students demonstrate college and career
readiness improve CAASPP scores and meet achievement targets?
School administrators, college counselors and teachers will use Naviance College
Career readiness platform to prepare students for their post-secondary education.

Describe goals and an implementation plan, with annual activities, to


address Internet Safety and the appropriate and ethical use of technology
in the classroom.

How are students using online communication technologies, including but


not limited to social networking and instant messaging?

During school hours internet access is filtered to block access to social


networking, instant messages, and inappropriate material to be seen.
What materials will be used to instruct students about internet safety,
including how to use technologies to protect themselves and their privacy
online?
All GSA students will be given age appropriate digital citizenship and internet
safety lesson include the dangers of publishing personal information, posting
inappropriate pictures and how to recognize offensive content, cyberbullying.
GSA will notify students and parents/guardians about lawful uses of the schools
computers and internet. Before starting to implement any technology tool teacher
will go over Digital Citizenship, cyber ethics and cyber safety education.
Students will be taught the difference between authorized and unauthorized uses
of computers and internet.
Students will be taught not to publish personal information/ user
names/passwords or inappropriate pictures online.
Students also will be taught to cite any materials from internet including pics,
articles, graphics and reports.
How to avoid plagiarism and copyright will be part of every teachers curriculum.
Students and parents will review the proper use of technology guide and sign the
agreement.
How will teachers be trained to deliver internet safety and ethical use
content?
During summer institution and PD days, staff will be trained on internet safety. In
addition to student handbook, Acceptable use of Technology guide will be
included in the HR booklet for staff. At least one presentation will be held
focusing on digital citizenship and cyber safety during PD days.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMPONENT
The Plan must have a professional development strategy to ensure that staff
understands how to use these new technologies to improve education services
(Answer at least 2 questions for each subsection below)

Summary of the teachers' and administrators' current technology


proficiency and integration skills and needs for professional development.

How does your LEA regularly assess teachers and administrators personal
technology proficiency skills?
Teachers and administrators will participate annual technology proficiency, system use
and the needs of users survey. Post professional development evaluation will also be
provided to collect feedback from staff. The results of the surveys and evaluations will be

shared with board members and superintendent for planning appropriate professional
development for the next school year. Principal observation will be another component
to guide the needs of professional development.
Are administrators able to support teachers with the integration of technology into
daily curriculum?
School administrators collect data, share resources and best practices with teachers to
encourage them to use technology in their daily lessons.
After collecting and analyzing professional development needs, what are the
local, regional and online professional development opportunities to meet
identified needs?
Once a year, teacher summer institution will be held to provide ongoing support to staff
member regarding the use of technology. In order to save more time and money
streamline information based professional development also will be provided to staff
members. With these online professional development opportunities, teacher will able to
spend more time with students.

Describe goals and an implementation plan, with annual activities, for


providing professional development opportunities based on your LEA
needs assessment data and the Curriculum Component of the plan.
What professional learning will be available so teachers and administrators can
make informed decisions using data to meet individual student academic needs?
School administrators and teachers will be provided SIS Grades Online training to
review methods of record keeping and analyzing data. District will develop procedures
for keeping tracks of personal, health and attendance records, grades and test scores.
All staff member will have an access to data, reports and scores to make data-driven
decision.
School administrators will monitor the development and implementation of activities and
share the progress report with staff during both district and site meetings.

What professional learning will be available so teachers and administrators can


effectively use technology to assist with student assessment?
Teachers and administrators will be trained on NWEA, Prep Me, IXL Math, AR Reading
program, USA Test Prep and Naviance and online textbook in order to assist with
students assessment. GSA Professional Development days focus on both department
and school-wide analysis of summative and formative assessments. In house experts
who are willing to share the best practices and strategies will train other teachers in
related subjects.

INFRASTRUCTURE, HARDWARE, TECHNICAL SUPPORT, SOFTWARE, AND


ASSET MANAGEMENT COMPONENT CRITERIA
The Plan must include an assessment of the telecommunication services,
hardware, software, asset management, and other services that will be needed to
improve education services.

Describe the existing hardware, Internet access, electronic learning


resources, technical support, and asset management already in the LEA
that will be used to support the Curriculum and Professional Development
Components of the plan.
What technologies are available to facilitate home/school communication
such as email, webpages, and voice mail?
The following technologies will be available to students and parents.
School website, teachers blogs, weekly newsletters, GSA Online activity and
assessments calendar, SIS Grades Online, teachers email, student directory, and
School Reach

Do all staff members have e-mail accounts? Do students have access to


email?

All staff members including cleaning crew and have school related emails. Students
dont have school related emails but they can check their personal emails during school
hours.

Is the current Internet service provider/Wide Area Network Connection


speeds able to meet the LEAs needs?

Our current internet is very slow to support our technology plan. However, GSA will
purchase new firewall to provide fast internet access that every students can connect
internet simultaneously.

What technology access do parents have at home? What technologies do


parents prefer for home/school communication?
Almost all of our parents have an access to computers and internet at home. Therefore
we dont send printed copy of weekly newsletter to home. All parents are communicated
through emails and phone calls (School Reach) if needed. Our school website and
Grades Online are the other two major communication tools that our parents prefer.

Describe the technology hardware, electronic learning resources,


networking and telecommunications infrastructure, physical plant
modifications, technical support, and asset management needed by the
LEA's teachers, students, and administrators to support the activities in the
Curriculum and Professional Development components of the plan.
What technology is needed to implement the Curriculum and Professional
Development components for students and staff?
All of our classrooms are equipped with one laptop, one desktop, one smart
board, one projector and one document camera. One Ipad cart and one Crome
Book cart are also available to students. Existing internet service is not enough to
support our needs. Cloud based services like Google drive will help teachers to
implement technology into their curriculum.
Can existing equipment be modified to meet certain needs identified in the
plan?
Some students computers are insufficient .Adding one more computer lab and one Ipad
cart and replacing all teacher Windows XP system with Window 7 are needed to
implement our technology goals. In addition to this, upgrading FireWall is a must.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION COMPONENT

The plan must include an evaluation process that enables the school to monitor
progress toward the specific goals and make mid-course corrections in response
to new developments and opportunities as they arise.

Describe the process for evaluating the plan's overall progress and impact
on teaching and learning.
Who will participate in the monitoring and evaluation process?
The Technology Plan Coordinator is responsible to evaluate Technology Plans
implementation and development. However, school principals and IT coordinator will
provide feedbacks and support.
What criteria will be used to measure success (e.g., test scores, student
portfolios, percentage of students attaining grade-level content standards, attendance,
dropout rate, matriculation to college, or full-time employment)?
Classroom observations, teachers and parents surveys, SIS Data, academic
performance data, test scores, report cards, attendance records, college acceptance
rate, graduation rate and lesson plans will be review to evaluate the implementation and
development of technology use.

Describe the schedule for evaluating the effect of plan implementation,


including a description of the process and frequency of communicating
evaluation results to tech plan stakeholders.
How often will data be collected and summarized? Who is responsible?
School principal is responsible to evaluate the use of technology in classrooms during
weekly observations. School administrators will also review the scores and students
achievements to provide feedbacks for the annual report.
How will technology success stories be documented and publicized?
Success stories will be shared with staff members and publish through our website.

At the end of each school year, the Technology Plan Coordinator will collect data and
feedbacks and prepare technology implementation report. This annual report will be
shared with GSA board at the beginning of new schoolyear.
