Dear UTEP Alumni,
At the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) the primary goal is to ensure that all of its
students get the help and support they need to be successful in their education and future.
For this reason UTEP offers an Academic Advising Center that provides the students with
the opportunity to exchange information with an advisor to help students reach their
educational and career goals. Academic advisors can assist in this process by helping the
students understand options, determine resources and, when necessary, identify alternatives.
The Academic Advising Center at the University of Texas at El Paso assists a vast
community of students and offers several resources which include the general studies
students, pre-nursing students, the programa interamericano estudiantil (PIE),
undergraduate students, German Abitur program, START program, Texas Success Initiative
(TSI), UTEP-UT Austin coordinated admission program, Foster homeless adopted
resources (FHAR), probation and suspension students, among others.
The Academic Advising Center serves as a support system for the student body and the
academic programs by ensuring clarity, uniformity, and informational accessibility of
college-wide academic information that is introduced upon a students entry and supported
centrally through graduation. Advisors highlight degree requirements, policies and
procedures, campus services, student life, and educational opportunities that may help
students. Academic advisors recommend to seek for their support and assistance as soon as
students find themselves struggling with a class, for they can provide students with options
and direct them to additional campus resources.
In addition, the Academic Advising Center has advisors that constantly encourage and
guide students to develop and pursue their goals. They refer students to the appropriate
campus resources to ensure that the students get the help they need to be successful. They
assists students in clarifying their interests, values, and goals. Advisors also help students in
various educational and career-related decisions, for example if a student is still undecided
on what to major in, an adviser is there to help and mentor the student on deciding what
major to choose.
The Academic Advising Center offers various academic success skills workshops for free to
students. This workshops are designed to help a student improve academically. Some of the
workshops include time management, note taking, active reading, mid-term prep, and final
exam prep. Each workshop is offered at different times and days of the week. For more
information on the workshops visit the Academic Advising Center website.
The office of Academic Advising Center is always willing to help any student to be
