Womens Right
There are two sexes, male and female; Sex is decided by sex organs. Gender is the social
and psychological expression of biological sex because people express different behaviors that
are not same as their sex. Sometimes people think the definition of sex and gender is similar. For
example, a woman who is obviously female might behave or dress in a masculine way. In that
case, we should describe the sex of the woman as female, but her gender is masculine.
Hegemonic Masculinity is fundamentally a dynamic, relational construct (Patricia 222).
Hegemonic Masculinity implies the importance of masculinity in current society in The United
States. Even though womens roles are changing, we still live in a patriarchy. It is unfair for
women because social status and gender prejudice affect women.
With the development of society, womens social status is still a hot topic. There are false
beliefs around women in society because they claim women should stay at home to take care of
their children, and they should not work outside to compete with men. Society believes there are
a lot of biological differences between women and men, and they should accept separate
education. In fact, womens social status is still lower than men even though society is improving
and changing. Several biological differences might mislead people to think men should go into
society to compete and women should stay at home. For example, society thinks men can handle
everything when they face an emergency event but women probably cannot. However, it cannot

be a reason and unfair to limit women to work outside because women might handle things
differently, but not worse. They have enough ability to compete with men.
This is serious feudal thought and especially in Chinese nineteenth century. A number of
families prefer to have boys rather than girls because they believe that boys can earn money and
support whole family when they grow up, but girls will marry to other family in the future. Most
women prefer to give birth to boys in order to keep status in whole family. When women give
birth to a girl, her husband and relatives will persuade women to give up the girl, this behavior
results in population ratio that was imbalance in society that male gender population goes up,
while the population of girls dramatically decreases. Chinese womens social status was
changing in 20 century. The behavior of bound feet eventually canceled. This command is
required from the government of Sun Zhongshan, a famous leader in China. Binding Feet was
totally disappeared until 21 century.
Furthermore, women probably cannot communicate with her husband and child because
they never contact with society to stay at home for a long time. When women cannot understand
what her husband and sons talk about, they may feel uncomfortable and self-contemptuous. After
a long time, some physical problem will come out, even suicide. In ancient society of China,
women should learn customs because it influences society by several social factors and morality,
and also reflect some moral life, moral relationship, and moral concept until now. In that time,
women have to listen to their father before they get married, and they obey husband and children
after they get marry. It implies society considers and pays more attention for men and limits all
behavior of women which have to obey males volition. Although some false concept of
traditional society already is canceled, we cannot say the requirements of womens custom is
incorrect totally, women still keep correct customs in current society. Now, young girls usually

make up when they meet a person or interview in the first time to show her respect; women
always keep smile for everyone, and sit straight in the public place. In my opinion, woman how
to show custom will reflect her education and quality, even represent the importance of morality
from whole country. If women pay attention for custom on their work and life, they can foster
correct and work attitude, and bring comfortable emotion for other people. On the other hand, if
a woman dresses up perfectly, but she does not know how to show the custom for other people,
she cannot get affection for anyone. People can close the psychical distance from other people,
and create friendship. Whether what type of work we work on, and what place we stay in, moral
behavior always represent personal quality.
Some survey shows that more and more women purpose to divorce rather than man. It
probably womens social status have dramatic improve. A lot of women improve status and
prove their abilities, because they work hard every day and achieve their goal on the work. In
that case, they have no time to accompany with husband and children not like before. In 21
century, independent women were increasing; they can decide everything they want and they
have liberty to decide their marriage either. In recent twenty years, the most developing city in
China have highest divorce rate, especially the capital, Beijing. It illustrates that a number of
women start pay more attention on the work rather than family. Another reason is many men
have strong pride, they cannot endure abilities of their wife is higher than them. Men always
build a role that they are strong, and earn money to support whole families is their work. It is a
physical contrast for men that women start to earn money, and they achieve surprise success.

The crucial woman in China to help women improve status in society is Song Meiling,
the first lady of the Republic of China (ROC), the wife of President Chiang Kai-shek. She played

a prominent role in the politics of China. And also, she rallied some people to protect womens
right in 1942. Furthermore, she also studied in the United States when she was young. Because
of her strong background and excellent ability, she attends a lot of politics, foreign affairs. She
played a crucial role to build a relationship between China and the United States. After that,
Chinese government realizes and changes the old concept to improve womens social status, they
make men and women have equal status, and eliminate discriminate that some people for
women. And also, the government legislate rules in order to protect womens status and equality.
However, some terrible behaviors still happen in society now. A part of women still face
domestic violence. They suffer mental and physical hurt. Some news reported a woman pregnant
just two months; she was lived in a narrow living room. Moreover, her husband hit her for a long
time, and then she lost her child. From this instance we can see, womens right in families often
suffer hurts from different degrees, domestic violence is the most obvious problem. Furthermore,
gender discrimination also exists in society. A lot of companies prefer to give work chance for
men rather than women, so women face pressures much bigger than men. Some researches show
that seven percent of women still work on a low level, and ninety-three percent of men working
on a high level in companies. The main reason why gender discrimination still exist in society is
the opinions of people not change totally yet, some leaders believe that women cannot do
important works efficiently. The weak status of women is obvious, we should be in-depth think
the problem of womens right, and give women more chances to compete with men.
Some people think that men should have the dominate status in the world because men
always stronger than women. They claim that a lot of men make contribute for the society since
ancient times. As the writer, Hubbard mentioned, When women tried to get access to higher
education, scientists initially claimed we could not be educated because our brains are too

small. (P46 Hubbard) Even they think women should not get normal education and contact with
society because women just make babies in their whole life. I believe that even though the some
abilities of women probably weaker than men, such as sensitivity of handle something, society
should give chance to women for prove themselves. Nowadays, while women have more rights
today than they did before, but there are still inequalities in society. There are not real equality
between men and women, because they doing different works in daily. For example, men usually
doing physical work, such as move some heavy things, women cannot do it. Women are good at
thinking details of things, they can make different ideas from different points of view. Why the
government start advocate equality between men and women in the twenty century? The main
reason is reduce contradiction which some people for women and social steady. For the start of
women can work outside, they just work on low position, but now it is opposite. A part of
women strive to achieve their goals, and other people can focus on their abilities and advantages.
Women prove their abilities can compete with men, they get same competitive chance and right
with men.
On the other hand, women get some accomplishments have several disadvantages. The
rate of single women is higher than before in this society, and most single women have high
degree, such as Doctor. Women which have high degree and do not know how to do a normal
woman. They lack some natural motherhood and emotional behavior, and they choose use
rational and knowledge to deal with many things. Once they do not use perceptual mind to think,
they probably consider themselves than other people. In fact, most people think that most women
is too sensitive. If they meet some problem, they will cry on the first time and they care about all
things from other peoples saying. Thats why some reason of women should not work in society.

However, once women start to work and strive, they may do everything in order to achieve the
goal.
In brief, even though women are social status is improving and changing than before,
there are still exist inequalities for some reasons. A successful woman should have economic
income to support themselves and get respect from husband or other people. And also, women
keep good relationship with families is important either, because families are a strong support to
promote women become success. Furthermore, women need enough confidence to open the
socials door. As long as you trust yourself, you can do it!
