Secondary Ethos: I will cite 3 references out loud in my speech
Audience Assessment: The audience will be somewhat familiar but will be made aware of the specific

Applied Speech: Key-Word Outline
How to Save Your Brain

Thesis: Reading every day is a necessary workout for the brain.

3. Relieves Stress
Transition: Reading really makes a big impact on our brains in multiple ways
I.

ii. Smarter
iii. Just like muscles, the brain benefits from a good workout. And reading is more
neurobiologically demanding than processing images or speech. (Lauren Duzbow Watch this,

Transition: Reading is very stimulating to the brain but it also helps relax and soothe our brain and body
III.

Reading allows you to enter a different world and focus your brain on the book while the rest of
your mind and body de-stresse .
A.
A well-written novel can transport you to other realms, while an engaging article will distract
you and keep you in the present moment, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to
relax. (Lana Winter 10 benefits of reading lifehack.com)
B.
Helps Fall Asleep
i. calming
ii. Cues body

Conclusion:
I cannot emphasize how important reading is for you and how many other benefits there are
but I know that reading is a very important daily work out for the brain because of how it can
stimulate the brain, prevent disease and de-stress. Those are vital in our high tech constantly
moving world.

Prepare to Answer Questions
A common question that is asked is, Do Ebooks have the same affect on the brain? The answer is yes
and no. While you are exposing yourself to a story and stimulating your brain you also can be easily
distracted by apps etc and the light from the screen signal your brain to stay awake rather than cue it to
sleep.
Is reading just intellectually stimulating? No it actually improves your mood and works out your brain to be
more empathetic
