TEMPORARY STAY VISA ON SPECIAL GROUNDS - STUDY

PROGRAM IN A TEACHING ESTABLISHMENT, STUDENT
EXCHANGE PROGRAMS, UNREMUNERATED PROFESSIONAL
TRAINING PROGRAM OR VOLUNTARY WORK, WITH
DURATION EQUAL OR INFERIOR TO ONE YEAR

(ARTICLES 71 AND 72 OF THE REPSAE (LEGAL FRAMEWORK ON THE ENTRY,

PERMANENCE, EXIT AND REMOVAL OF FOREIGNERS FROM NATIONAL TERRITORY), IN
CONJUNCTION WITH ARTICLES 44 AND 49, PARAGRAPHS 6, 7, AND 8 OF THE
REGULATORY DECREE NUMBER 2/2013)
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:
Application delivered personally, (on a standard form) signed by the applicant (where the applicant is
either a minor or legally disabled person the form shall be signed by his / her legal representative)
Two recent, identical photographs, in colour with blank background, and easily identifiable, except in
SIGAP Service Bureaus
Passport or any other valid travel document
Evidence of sufficient means of subsistence, as per the provisions of Order number 1563/2007, of 11/12
Evidence that the applicant has adequate accommodation
Permission for checking criminal records (see standard form), where the stay is intended to exceed 90
days (except people under 16 years old)
Return travel ticket, or, in duly proven and well-documented situations, booking travel arrangements with
clear return date, where the stay is intended to exceed 90 days
Regarding studies program in a teaching establishment:
Document issued by the respective teaching establishment, supporting the enrolment / registration and
attendance of the course
Students hosted in family households must deliver documentary evidence to that effect, as laid down by
Article 62, paragraph 5, sub-paragraph c) of the Aliens Act
Regarding Professional Training:
Document issued by a company or by a professional training establishment officially recognized,
declaring that the applicant is attending a training course in accordance to the pre-defined schedule
Regarding voluntary work:
Documentary evidence of extension of the voluntary work programme, issued by the officially
recognized institution that conducts the programme in Portugal

NOTES:
1. Voluntary work programs must comply with the rules on minimum age of participants, as ruled in the
relevant Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
2. The validity of the visa for temporary stay, including the respective extension of stay may not exceed one
year
3. Applications for extending the period of stay shall not be granted where delivered more than 30 days
after the term of the authorized period of stay
