Writing: the Uphill Battle

Writing has been one of the more hazardous areas for me in my education. I often feel as
if there wasn't any progression with grades steadily decreasing every time an essay was assigned.
After writing many papers I realized that the lengths of the paper as well as the subject were
deciding factors that affected my success. English 101 has enforced the idea that no matter how
much effort I put towards resolving my issues, I will never be able to surpass a certain limit.
However, I have learned many strategies that are employed in writing such as paraphrasing.
English has always been a bitter-sweet experience.
Education is one of the highest priorities that I have and I direct more effort towards
attendance and the completion of assignments. It is a shame that I am only human and fail to
meet my standard goal for perfect attendance. Other than a few days are missed in the entire year
and the majority of assignments are turned in on time. The content of my journal entries is based
on personal experience, so some days I would answer the topic while others are not given a
definitive center. Utilizing the skills learned throughout the semester I have been able to
understand and apply functions of certain punctuations. Quotes are something that I never fully
grasped the concept of until this semester. I mention this as I have experienced many troubles
with where to place the period when using a quote. During my time in class, although it was
short, showed me the importance of literature and how to incorporate the methods taught in class
to further improve a papers credibility.

My writing has a tendency of involving words that normally would never be put into an
essay. The reason for doing this is so that I can feel better of my writing as I lack the depth that
the paper requires. This is the most probable cause of why I cannot meet the minimum content
value. Although they sound cool and fulfill the same purpose, ultimately the essay with the most
words beats the one with the better diction. Improving is hard especially when it comes to
research papers. All of the research papers I had to write failed to break even with the
predecessor. I believe that this outcome is based on how the topic was the writers decision as
long as it pertained to the topic of the project. No matter how much I learn I must practice in
order to become a better writer.
This final paper is most likely to be the shortest of all of my essays of English 101.
Looking back throughout the semester I remind myself that success is not always how much
points is earned, but how I feel about my actions and if I believe that I managed to accomplish
anything of practical use. Even if this assignment is a failure, I will at least know a little bit more
on how I can improve my writing. It does not appear that I have progressed in terms of the
quantity. However, I have always been the type of person who does not communicate well.
Literature is an art that is hard to master and those who wish to strive for such face much strife in
their pursuit. Should they achieve such they will surely look back and recall both the good times
and the bad that helped develop a well-versed writer. I shall have to increase my efforts to be
able to write as much as the average student. It is a high wall to climb, but I shall prevail- one
paper at a time.
