In the essay, Will Organic Food Fail to Feed the World?, written by David Biello talks
about the future of the food through the industrial technology and organic agriculture. The
growth of food crops have been a source to feed "hungry mouths, feed for animals headed to the
slaughter-house, fiber for clothing, and even, in some cases, fuel for vehicles --all derive from
global agriculture" (Biello, 232). There are two known ways of growing these food crops. One
through industrial technology. In the industrial technology, food crops contain "use of synthetic
fertillizers, chemical pesticides, and hormones or antibiotics treatments for livestock, among
other tactics" (Biello, 232). All these chemicals in the crops make the process a lot quicker and
produces more quantity than an organic crops. The environment is affected by these chemicals as
they are sprayed onto the crops and blown into the air. The human health is impacted by the
fertillizers, chemicals and hormones used causing dieases and health issues in the long run.
Organic agriculture is the second known way to grow food. Organic is a healthier way of
growing food but it also comes with a few drawbacks. Biello says, "Organic farmers, on the
other hand, must learn to manage an entire ecosystem geared to producing food-- controlling
pests through biological means, using the waste from animals to fertilize fields, and even
growing one crop amidst another" (233). Organic agriculture "is a very knowledge-intensive
farming system." The treatment for the lands, fields, and crops is a extreme care as the organic

famers are to provide nutrients and pest management for the crops in a different way than using
chemical.
I believe organic food will not fail to feed the world. This process will not change from
night to morning because the population of the world is increasing. The process can last up to
decades until enough food is produced. Industrial technology farming seems impossible to be
fully eliminated because of high productions but a minimization can occur, and organic farming
can be the leader in food production. The world already produces more than enough food to feed
the world but people are misusing food crops and "in the U.S. alone, 215 meals per person go to
waste annually" (234). The production in food will change over time as technology advances and
new ways to reduce the consumption of water and other chemicals. As of now, food production
in the industrial technology farming and organic farming remain about the same. If the
production of food is working fine, I dont see why not continue having it this way.
