present.
ThisbookwillmostlikelyprovidemostoftheinformationIneedformypaper.Itcovers
everythingfromthehistoryofthereligiontoitsassimilationintoourculture.Itisextremely
detailedandspansawiderangeoftopics,soIbelieveIwillbecitingitquiteoften.Ithink
readingthiswillprovidethefoundationandbackgroundknowledgeIneedtowriteacoherent,
informedpaperonAmericanBuddhism.IthinkthemostimportantaspectIdliketoincludeis
itsdiscussionoftheinfluencethetwocultureshavehadoneachotherandhowmodernthinking
convertsareseenbytraditionalists.Itwouldbeinterestingtocoverthevaryingviewpoints
betweentheoldworldthinkingtraditionalistsandthenewagemodernconverts.Italsocovers

howBuddhismhasbecomeAmericanizedovertime,whichIwilldefinitelytalkaboutinmy
paper.
Iknowthissourceiscrediblebecausetherehavebeenmanypositivescholarlyreviewsof

goodtohelpillustratehowthedifferentbranchesofthereligionhaveformedaftercominginto
contactwithourculture.IalsomightwanttotalkaboutJapaneseBuddhismversusothertypes
butthatmightnotbenecessary.

dontthinkIshouldincludetheveryspecificclassificationsystemsthataretalkedaboutinthis
journal.Itwouldbogdownmyfinalpaperwithtoomuchinformationaboutthescientificstudy
ofreligions,althoughIwouldliketotouchonitverybriefly.

buddhisminAmericahashadonourcultureandnotjusttheotherwayaround.Idliketorelate
