Final Reflection
Throughout this fall 2015 semester in UWRT 1102, the theme has been
popular culture. This theme has been utilized in many different aspects throughout
the classs different assignments and projects. Each assignment was created in
order to force me to use a different style of inquiry or thinking to collectively
establish a solid point of view on the classs theme.
The extended inquiry project really forced me as a student to utilize research
to reinforce my topic for the project. My topic being what is success, is very
different from person to person. The main challenge with this kind of topic is trying
to find a way to use my research to argue my own personal opinion to the reader. I
believed that through this project I learned the most about fusing two different
styles of writing into one easily understood essay. The essay portion of this project
was put together through many different steps. I had to make a proposal for my
topic to be reviewed by my peers. This proposal proved to be incredibly valuable
because, it showed me in what ways my topic was flawed and I ended up changing
my topic completely because of it. The rough draft was another portion that was to
be reviewed by my peers. This review helped me in the fact that I was able to see
how my writing points needed to be revised.
For the extended inquiry project I had to make an annotated bibliography for
my research. This was one of the most challenging parts of the project. The biggest

challenge with this was figuring out at first, what to even research in order to ague
my topic. Picking a topic that everyone has an opinion is a challenge for
researching. I enjoyed troubleshooting different sources that made the most sense
and allowed me to really form a well put together argumentative essay. My essay
topic would not be as strong without the annotated bibliography.
The Multi-Modal project really challenged me to pick a subject that I was able
to utilize the different rhetorical strategies. I chose to create a poster. The poster
was an advertisement for a construction career fair. The rhetorical strategies came
into play for trying get students to attend to career fair. This project forced me to
highlight aspects of advertising that I previously never thought about. Having
completed this project, I believe that I have truly learning something about how
people react to different styles of writing.
This was hands down, one of the most interesting classes I have taken. I
believe I really excelled in this class through the various different projects. I chose to
do my extended essay on a challenging topic and ended up with a great end
project. Through the work done on projects and my participation in the class, I
believe I deserve to receive a B in this class. I failed to turn in every assignment but
what assignments I have done, I excelled in.
The class went very well in my opinion. My favorite aspect of the class is the
openness of due dates. This openness forces students to be responsible for their
final grade entirely just like in the real world. Having not posted a due date for many
assignments until the end of the semester allowed diligent students to finish
assignments throughout the semester on their own time and the procrastinators to

have a hard time. This class taught me a lot about time management and the vast
importance of setting priorities with assignments.
There is not much to be said about my house group Ravenclaw. We were
made of smart individual students but lacked a strong leadership role. There was no
communication within the group outside of class. I blame myself for not asserting
myself as a leader and pulling a group together to help with assignments. We
worked great together on the group advertisement and when we were forced to.
All-in-all, I am glad I signed up for this class and hope to have more
professors like professor Inawiwat in the future.
