The Multigenre Research Project

Mrs. Bridges

Fall 2015

This assignment is designed to bring out your creativity. This is not a traditional paper. That
means that I do not want any essays! This is an opportunity for you to be creative and explore
other ways that research can be presented.
Writing the Research Paper:
You are going to research an important person, place or event. This topic must be
something that interests you.
You will research your topic thoroughly. This means that it will have all the same
information that a traditional research paper has. You will need to cite ALL your sources
properly.
This project is completely left up to you. You have the freedom to choose how you
present your information. You might choose to write a poem where traditional grammar
rules do not apply. However, you may also choose to write a letter in which case, you will
need to have proper grammar and the appropriate format.
As you research your topic, try to discover a thesis statement rather than create one.
Think about possible themes that will surface as you research. For example, when
researching September 11th, you might discover the theme of radicalism and how that has
impacted the way we view other religions and cultures.
The Requirements:
For this research project, you will need at least five different genres. You may pick and
choose any from the provided list. If you want to use any other genres that are not on the
list, you need to check with me first.
Altogether, your research project should be at least 1,200 words in length. You will also
need a reference page using the proper format.

The research you present should be in some type of order that makes sense for your topic.
For example, when researching September 11th, you will need to provide the information
leading up to the day first, and then the events of the day, then the events after, so on and
so forth.
Try to make your project flow smoothly. Make sure the transitions from piece to piece are
smooth and that they make sense.
Lastly, you will need to bind your project in a creative way. Wrap it, bind it, package it, or
anything else that you can think of!
I do not expect your project to be a certain way. This project is a reflection of what interests you
and how creative you can be! Your project should not look like anybody elses. The sky is the
limit here, I want you to let your guard down and explore your imagination. Think outside the
box!
