Introduction
O The purpose of this project proposal is to bring attention and awareness to the excess alcoholconsumption among adolescents (along with its consequences and long-term effects on health),
specifically high school students.
O These goals include raising awareness through use of scare tactics, by usage of images,
statistics, and information to more heavily impact teenagers and high school students.
O The theories/models that will be used: Precaution Adoption Process Model, Models Based on
Perceived Threat and Fear Appeals, & Social Marketing Theory.
O The Social Marketing Theory will be the most utilized tool in this project and/or campaign idea.
By using social media, high school students will be more easily accessed and high school
students, in vice-versa will easily access the campaign.

Health

Consumption of Alcohol

Begins around 12 and

continues to 24

Brain fully matures around

the age of 18-24 years

Efects of Alcohol
Drinking before the age of
22 may lead to to memory
problems, difculty
learning, issues with
motor skills, disruption of
normal growth and
sexual/brain development,
and fnally death

Why it's a
Problem
35.1 percent of 15-yearolds report that they have
had at least 1 drink in their
lives.

Death 4,358people under age

21 die each year from alcoholrelated car crashes, homicides,
suicides, alcohol poisoning, and
other injuries such as falls,
burns, and drowning.
O Serious injuries More than
190,000 people under age 21
visited an emergency room for
alcohol-related injuries in 2008
alone.
O Impaired judgment Drinking
can cause kids to make poor
decisions, which can then result
in risky behavior like drinking
and driving, sexual activity, or
violence.
O Increased risk for physical
and sexual assault Youth
who drink are more likely to
carry out or be the victim of a
physical or sexual assault.
O Brain development problems
Research shows that brain
development continues well into
a persons twenties. Alcohol can
afect this development, and
contribute to a range of
