Re:

Implementing Drones in the Farms

Purpose:
The purpose of this report is to propose a solution to the ongoing problem Real
Seeds is having with loosing resources by using passenger airplanes to survey
our crops.

Introduction:
With the cost of land surveying becoming more expensive due to the rise of gas
prices, farmers now need new and cost effective ways to make sure they will profit
after the harvest.
Many factors contribute to the expense of land surveying. With gas prices going
up the technique of using airplanes to survey the land is becoming a burden. In an
article published on the Daily Beast Miranda Green pointed out that farmers are
loosing money each time they check if their crops need more water, are growing
properly, or if theyre being overrun by weeds (Green). But its not only farmers its
the companies that employ those farmers, companies like ours that is loosing
money.
Our company is losing profit and time by having to buy airplanes, keep them
maintained and not to mention buy gas to fuel those airplanes. In a way they are
also cutting down on farmers profits and time. They have to have land to build a
runway to land the airplanes, land that could be used to grow more crops. It is also
a waste of time to be up in the sky while he/she can focus on more important
things. Also if the farmers are doing all of the surveying it is easy for them to miss
if a certain area needs more attention (Colimore).

Proposed Tasks:
1. Preliminary Research This is where we will research the main issue our
company is facing and look for innovative solutions to that problem.

2. Secondary Research Secondary research will be done in the database

where we will research our solution to make sure it is a good fit for our
company.
3. Meet with Farmers (Primary Research) Our primary research will include
meeting with farmers at farmers markets to ask them questions pertaining
to drones and land surveying on farms.
4. Gather Success Stories To prove that drones are a good fit we will look
for stories from farmers who have already used drones on their land.
5. Conclusion To conclude our project we will finish up our research and
start finalizing our documents as well as prepare for the proposal we will be
doing in front of the company.

Experience:
My is interested because drones have nearly no limitations on their potential, and
they could ultimately revolutionize the way our world operates. He has no
qualifications for this subject aside from being an interested civilian. My is planning
on majoring in computer science giving him a good idea as to how the drones are
given commands and how they work on a computer level.
Rebecca has had some experience growing vegetables and fruits although it
hasnt been on a large scale she knows the basics of farming. She has also had
some interest in drones and all of the uses they provide to different areas in and
out of the workplace. Rebecca is also planning on majoring in biology so she
could bring the group an insight as to how the effectiveness of our proposed
solution could impact the crops.
What interested Brian about the topic was that drones could be used to help
farmers take care of their crop in an efficient manner. Also that a drone is much
cheaper to use to inspect the crop than using a plane to check the crops and a
drone doesnt use fossil fuel to be powered. Brian is a nurse major so he is all
about healthy nutritious alternatives so he is interested in finding new innovative
ways to grow crops.
Our group is interested in drones because our company would benefit from their
many uses. We are excited to implement new technologies to improve our time
management and cost effectiveness.
