#2 Writing 1101
Students need to take Writing 1101 because you are going to have to write papers,
reports, and other such items in the future. You will need it for your classes, you will need it or
your job, and you will need it for communicating with others. I hope that this class will prepare
me for all the rest of my classes when I need to type papers or lab reports. I hope this class will
make the rest of my college experience and further beyond that, fly by with an ease. I do not
expect much writing in my career; maybe just some short descriptions and statements for when I
am creating technology.
#3 Writing and Reading in the Future
Last Book Read
7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Descriptive/Analysis
Reports and Charts
Personal, General
Writing in the Future
I will be writing out formal memos and reports that describe my products or other
peoples products
Abstract
It should be a start be a short summary using common vocabulary that everyone should
know. Its purpose is to give a brief overview of the topic

Reports
Reports should be formal and long enough to cover all of the information. It could
include data and charts of the topic it is on.
Argument Genre
An argument genre has two sides and depending on the ton. There ca be many different
tones found including calm, angered, sympathetic, and biased.
#4 Course Notes

Summary = collection of main points

Annotation = explaining or noting a piece of writing
Paraphrasing = Summarize in ones own words
I use paraphrasing more because my classes required me to research and rewrite others
writing
We use citations to give credit to the original person who wrote what we quoted or
paraphrased
I believe that more than 25%, I think it should be more around 70%
People cheat because it takes less time and it is easier than writing something from scratch
Consequences are having to redo the assignment or getting a 0 for the assignment
Using turn-it-in was a little scaring because our work might be seen too similar to someone
elses and we might get penalized

#5 Single Story
What is a single story?
When someone only believes one thing and applies it to similar things and doesnt accept
that the thing might not apply to the similar thing
How do single stories hinder us as writers/communicators?
Single stories limit our writing abilities and our imagination because it will be the same
information and it is likely that very little in our writing and communications will ever
change if we are not exposed to new, different stories.
What single story have you personally encountered?
I have encountered the single story that everyone in college drinks. Another single story
is that everyone that lives even close to the beach, goes to the beach every week and
loves the beach.
