Final Reflection

1.Choose a song or musical compostion that communicates your experience with

writing and UWRT 1103. Consider including a video of the song. Explain your choice
Work hard Play hard Wiz Khalifa
-

A lot of hard work and sleepless were spent writing the papers
necessary for this class.
Throughout most of the papers, there was a feeling of success when
I got my flow going which relates to the play portion of the song.
Song relates to balancing work with living life and you have to
balance when writing or else you will overstress yourself and hit
major writers block.

2.If you were to teach this class, what ideas would you emphasize?
-The brainstorming process overall. Many college level students have
the overall base of writing successfully but cant get thoughts down or
connect all those thoughts into 8 pages.
-Writing for business manners should be emphasized since we are that
close to being adults ourselves. Learning how to write a professional
email, or resume would definitely be a cool project for future students.
- Definitely emphasize the They Say I Say book even more. The book
actually had a lot of great points. Its basically a cheat sheet for writing.
I am going to continue to use the book because it had some great
points.
3.Explain how your understanding of rhetorical knowledge has changed over the
course of the semester using at least three examples from your writing.
- For my thesis paper, I changed the flow of my writing to be more
informational than anything else to fit the role and mood of an actual
thesis paper.
- For my literacy narrative, since it was a hands-on writing and it was in
relation to the book we read at the time ( The Book Thief), I wasnt
exactly too iffy about punctuation and being perfect grammar wise. I
used sayings that I would usually only say in person rather than in a
paper that was going to be graded.
-For the inquiry proposal, I completely changed my thought process.
The whole paper was on a question that we posed to our audience that
technically couldnt be answered. I had to think of the positive answers
that the audience could pose to the question while also incorporating
the negatives as well which was actually kind of fun.
4.Explain how your critical reading has improved during the semester.
-Literacy Narrative

- For the literacy narrative, I connected The Book Thief with what
we posed to write about. The paper was on the different pieces
of work that forced us to be the people we are currently and this
made me think of the main character of The Book Thief , Liesel.
Liesel continuously took books from wherever she went and
these books almost defined who she was as a person. I thought
of shows, movies, books etc.. that made me do the same in my
life.
-Inquiry Proposal
For the inquiry proposal section of this class, we were focusing
a lot of They Say I Say. I used They Say I Says templates a lot
throughout my inquiry proposal because of how it flowed throughout
my paper and it definitely helped me out.
-Thesis
To help in writing my thesis, I actually began to read the thesis
from Mrs.Thomas former students. I then noticed how exactly they
formed their paragraphs and their flow of their own papers.
5. Discuss your composing processes. EX. Did you conduct additional research while
revising or after consulting a colleague? Provide at least three examples to support
your assertion
-Literacy Narrative: I actually didnt do any prior research or addition
until our conference meeting where my professor and my peers all
guided me towards positive criticism which led me to change certain
points of the paper itself.
-Inquiry Proposal: I did a lot of research for this paper mainly since I
chose a difficult topic that related around a lot of scientific themes. I
was interested around the whole topic though so it wasnt that big of a
problem to rent a few books from the library to read them and gain
some knowledge on the topic.
-Thesis: After student feedback at our second conference meeting, I
changed some small details of the paper. Prior to the meeting, I
actually conducted a survey though so there was some research done.
6.Provide at least three examples of your knowledge of conventions ( ex. Sentence
level changes, MLA citations).
-The They Say I Say chapter on how to actually use the form of They
Say I say .
- The lady from the library who spoke to us on how to use the library
website but also provided detail aid on how to cite our papers and books that
we rented from the library at
UNCC.

-The lecture from Mrs. Thomas on how to shorten our sentences so that
they keep the same meaning but yet dont run on. We also used a template
and assignment from They Say I Say to practice the skill.
7.Critical Reflection: a) Discuss an example of choices made during a composition.
B) Explain what you think is most important in providing commentary on others
work and receiving commentary on your own. Provide at least three examples of
your nuanced use of commentary in your writing projects.
- For my thesis, I had a choice to make to either keep the same topic
that I used for my inquiry proposal and struggle trying to come up with 8
pages on that topic or tweak my topic a bit to something that is actually
rhetorical and I can really get into depth on. I ended up actually liking my
thesis but at first I was honestly afraid of how I was going to come up with 8
pages. I ended up doing all 9 pages in two sittings just because it all came to
the top of my brain so fast.
-Overall, the most important thing to remember when providing
commentary is to remember these students are in the same shoes as you
are. No college student actually loves just writing papers as homework but
also remember that what you can say can help them. Most students
(including myself) just write to write and sometimes dont even go over what
we wrote because we are just trying to complete the paper itself. If we just
give some pointers or some ideas that come to our mind, it could ignite their
creative juices to start flowing and in turn, help them out. On the other hand,
when receiving commentary, the best thing to me is that I actually use it. I
know my fellow students wouldnt say anything to make my papers any worst
so I definitely try to use their advice. Its basically like the saying Learn from
your mistakes, you have to learn from your writing mistakes and build onto
them to eventually become a better writer in the end. If you continue to do
the same writing, then you will continuously make the same mistakes.
- For my literacy narrative, during the conference, Mrs. Thomas
highlighted to me the issue of adding a TV show into my paper and being
considerate of my audience. When composing my paper, I knew all
STUDENTS would know what Thats So Raven was, but maybe professors
might not be considering the show is a mid-2000s comedy show released on
Disney Channel aimed towards teenagers. So I added a sentence or two
describing more about the show
- For my inquiry proposal: the issue came up that I wasnt actually
describing the different body types enough, so I went back and described the
different types, one by one.
For my thesis: I mentioned my research done on Yik Yak. The same
issue with my literacy narrative came up. I didnt actually describe what Yik
Yak really is. So I went back and gave more detailed information on Yik Yak
and the social media site actually functions and its purpose so my audience
all can understand it.
