With all the ways that religion are described today we are going to
attempt to use the definitions of religion and its philosophies to
understand and define Hinduism as a religion. With all the
complications is it a Religion or just a way of life.
Religion being an argument: each person follows a religion based on his beliefs
hence there can be a universal definition of religion since it wont be easy to convenience
someone to define religion or accept a certain religion as it seems right to you. People
have different ideas about what religion exactly is.
The belief in the existence of a supernatural: various religions belief in the
existence of a supernatural omnipresent being but others do not belief in such but rather
belief in the things and object they see as being their creator or provider hence religion is
thereby defined as per the existence of a provider or a supernatural power in accordance
to different people or culture or community.
A bond religion at instance can be defined based on the bond that people believe
they are making with their creator, many people believe that through certain practices or
doings they get to bond with their creator or provider this practices differ in all places of
worship or in all communities therefore the believe of existence of a bond is another
source of the definition of a bond.

A dream this is another source of the definition of religion, a religion is defined as

a dream under the essence of our own thinking and emotions drive as being separate
existence therefore one can define religion according to ones emotion and thinking.
Definitions about religion are also derived from what an individual does with his
body and soul. Some people do not believe in any religion at all but other defines religion
according to what they do in themselves and what they see as being right.
A price that we pay for being alive; religion is defined as a price that we pay for
our lives in the different religions that exist people do take offering to church as a means
of paying back to their creator, singing and dancing in places of worship praising the
supernatural power or whoever a particular group or community believes in then is a
form of paying back therefore religion is a price.
Fear of natural death; many religions believe in the existence of a judgment day
while other religions do not believe in the same. To those who believe in the existence of
a judgment day and fear death since they believe in the existence of heaven and eternal
life gives a basis for the definition of religion.
Rituals, myths, a lot of definitions of religion have been derived from the myths
and rituals of a particular group or community what people practice and experience and
hear of about a supernatural power makes them practice a particular religion hence there
definition to religion.
Inspiration; different people define religion as being an inspiration from someone
or a particular activity. A person may practice some activities because his friend advises
or inspires him to do so or one can get inspired by his sprit to practice some activities in

order to praise or worship something hence religion can be defined as being an

inspiration.
Hindu society as Dharma (Gavin 10). It is referred to as the ritual that Brahma
conducted normally for the benefit of people. However, the word dharma has been used
by other groups of people to refer to different issues and concepts that arise each day.
Therefore, dharma can be defined according to circumstances. In some areas, people
relate it to religion while in other circumstances it may be considered as a law. It is thus
important to understand Hinduism in a wider perspective with close look at multiple
component of Hindu Dharma.
However, Hindu Dharma is divided into different components. They make it firm
for people to understand and emulate in the entire society. The different components
include the social hierarchy among the castes, gender roles and even the ideology of
renunciation. In order to understand Hinduism and how it impacts the lives of most
people, it is essential to evaluate the various components. First, the social hierarchy has
much significance when it comes to delegating work and other responsibilities. For
instance, priests are given the role of connecting people with gods. The warriors protect
people from both the external and internal attacks. In addition, farmers and merchants
who play the role of feeding people through indulging themselves in agriculture and
trade. On the lower part of living, there are the (Shudras) laborers and servants who assist
the farmers and the merchants with their tasks. The hierarchy of the society is organized
in a way that people understand what they are required of in all circumstances. It prevents
commotion and inconveniences among people of the society.

In addition, dharma includes the gender roles that are defined by peoples
sexuality and behaviors that the society requires from both genders. Women differed from
men in ways that they conducted themselves. Kama which is referred to as physical love
is the significant aspect that grouped people especially men in relation to power and
wealth. In addition, women considered being unique; they were not instrumental
creatures that men are supposed to desire because they deserve to be shown true love
(Harold 14). Brahman regulated the traditional love that people were supposed to emulate
and cling to. However, failure to honor the directions of the gods is related to family and
society instability that people never wanted to hear. Lastly, ideology of renunciation
refers to the rejection of the social political world, which is full of challenges. Religion is
a very important aspect in the lives of all people. It gives individuals a sense of belonging
and hence allowing the society to live in peace.
In conclusion Hindu-Dharma is considered a religion and one of the
largest in the world. It has the ideas and worships of deities and also
in the enlightenment of man. It is not organized how most look at
religion being that of one God and scripture and house of worship but
Hinduism is that of a spiritual nature to make one-self and those
around you a better person.
