Elizabeth Benedict, Professor
University of New Mexico
Albuquerque, New Mexcio
Dear Elizabeth,
With this letter, I have enclosed the student outcome of English 219 and how I
personally was able to accomplish these outcomes with examples.
English 219 called for its students to be able to write in variety of situations that
they could be exposed to in the professional environment. They wanted students
to be able to accomplish four objectives; Analyze Rhetorical Situation, Find and
Evaluate Information, Compose Document, and Present Documents.
The objective Analyze Rhetorical Situation wanted students to be able to analyze
a rhetorical situation and to be able to determine what kind of genre they will be
writing in. In our second major writing assignment we were supposed to
research, address, and offer a solution for a local, UNM or Albuquerque,
problem. We were called to persuade whoever our audience was with a proposal.
My group chose to speak to a companys executive so we drafted our proposal to
be professional, descriptive, and to the point.
The second objective is Find and Evaluate Information. In each of our major
writing assignments we needed valid information. We learned in class about
academic databases that provide accredited information. These databases were
reviewed for accuracy and accepted as a dependable academic source. In our
third major writing assignment we found and evaluated information based off of
interviews and surveys. I accomplished this objective by being able to find and
evaluate information in a variety of accredited sources.

The third objective is Compose Documents. All of our projects needed a stratedy
for developing our papers. It called for organization, influences, and effective
work with others to deliver a good paper. In our proposal assignment I was
assigned with two others to create a proposal. We were successfully able to draft
and organize a paper with equal contribution from each of us. We had to work
with each other to make sure that every criterion was achieved.
The Final objective was Present Documents. Editing and revising a document is
a crucial part of the writing process. We had peer review time that really helped
me locate mistakes that I would have missed otherwise. I also had one on one
time with Elizabeth and received direct feedback that improved my projects
substantially. This objective also called for type of visual element to help with the
understanding and overall design of our projects. In our proposals and academic
reports we had graphs and tables to prove or further explain our main points.
Overall all of these objectives will be skills that I will transition to my professional
career. I now will be able to differentiate which genre to write in, how to find valid
information, be able to compose documents and work with a team, and to be able
to improve my future tasks through editing.
Thank you for teaching this course, I really had a blast. I have truly gained
expertise in a variety of situations and will be able to transition these in the work
force.
Sincerely,

David Rodriguez
