Week 14

Well here we areweek 14! Amazing how time has

flown by. A big thank you to our two Super Heros this
week Kimberly and Liam. They stepped into the
leadership role with lots of excitement!

Language: This week we looked at the letters Zz. We

also completed another Writers Workshop where
children completed the sentence: My favourite thing
about Christmas is . We have been noticing a great
improvement in many of our students. Their
confidence levels have been growing and we see them
actively using tools we have taught them in class, in
their own writing. They are remembering larger
meatball spaces between words and smaller
spaghetti spaces between letters. Way to go!!!
Please continue to practice phonetic spelling at home

and encouraging proper sentence structure (capitals

where necessary, lower case when necessary and
periods at the end of sentences).
We also began using our classroom Word Wall. We
placed student names under the appropriate letters in
the alphabet. We also began looking at a few sight
words. Here are the ones we are focusing on this
week: I, it, a, in, is, me.
Try and include these words in some print at home and
see if they remember!
Music/Art: We have been practicing very, very hard
for our Christmas Concert. The children seem to have
it down!
Phys. Ed.: There was no formal phys. Ed this week. On
Wednesday our Reading Buddies came in instead to
help our students with letters to Santa and ornament
decorating. On Friday we shared our phys. Ed time
with the other FDK classes to practice our concert
altogether. In lieu of missing our gym time we have

been allowing students to go outside early for recess to

get some extra energy burning time!
Science: This week we had fun trying out a Candy Cane
Experiment. We had four different jars containing a
different liquid in each: oil, vinegar, hot water and cold
water. Students guessed what might happen when we
placed a candy in each jar. They enjoyed coming back
to the jars during activity time to see how things were
coming along. The hot water beaker dissolved the
candy cane the fastest!
Religion: We are continuing our discussion of Advent
and how we are preparing for Christmas. We continue
to discuss kindness to others and how this is very
important at this time of the year.
Roots of Empathy: This week we had another pre-visit
for Roots of Empathy. The children discussed reasons
that a baby might cry. They learned to never shake a
baby and that if an adult gets frustrated with a crying
baby, to put that baby down and walk away. They also
discussed ways in which a baby might be calmed down.
