ePortfolio Reflection

This final paper, and this course in general, has really helped me hone my skills in my
everyday writing. Being able to identify the rhetoric in the visuals and text that we see every day,
and understand what they mean, has really impacted me. I believe this final project demonstrates
my abilities have they have changed and been refined throughout this semester in this English
1010 course, and shows my progress towards SLCCs college wide learning outcomes, such as
being able to communicate effectively, think critically, and develop the knowledge and skills to
work with others in a professional and constructive manner. This project also connects with what
I have learned in various other Gen Ed courses, such as my Introduction to Philosophy course
that I also took this semester. Both of these courses went into how to think critically about
various texts and sources that we have read, while one goes into the deep thinking of
philosophical issues, this English 1010 course helped me to hone my skills in my other course as
well. I went through a long process of researching and editing for this final paper, and it did
bring up a few challenges. Among which, trying to find unbiased sources of information about
my issue, the Anti-Vaccination movement, and show both sides of the argument while still
arguing for the side that I was supporting, which was that the Anti-Vaccination movement is a
detriment to the health of our society. I really think that this project demonstrates the great strides

I have made in my critical thinking and writing abilities throughout the semester than I have
learned in this English course. Finally, I feel that this project demonstrates my progress in terms
of the goals set out for us within this course itself, such as rhetorical strategies, critical thinking,
composing processes, and conventions of writing. I have learned much about the way rhetoric
plays a part in most pieces of writing that we view, and even the ads that we see online, on
television, or in the newspaper. Also, this project shows the way I have learned to be a better
critical thinker throughout this semester, processing information differently and taking different
viewpoints on it. Overall, this class has been a great benefit to me, and this project showcases the
changes that I have made throughout the semester in this course.
