ABORTION

Abortion

2. Abortion: The topic of abortion is very controversial, but nothing has ever been learned by
avoiding tough subjects. What are your views on abortion? Under what circumstances, if any,
would you consider it? If you were a lawmaker, what would be your stand on this issue?
In India, boys are valued more than girls and amniocentesis has become widespread. In one
province, only one in thousands of abortions following amniocentesis was that of a male fetus,
the rest were females. How do you feel about abortion as a tool for gender selection?
Suppose that one of the female fetuses in the previous example was also identified as having
suffered severe mental and physical damage to the point that, after birth, the resulting child
would mentally and physically be unable to care for itself. Would this information influence
(change) your decision?
Abortion is a subject that everyone has an opinion on. Whether they are for or against it
they are very outspoken and opinionated. I like everyone else fall into this category, I am against
abortion. By the time a woman finds out she is pregnant she is almost 8 weeks along. By this
point the baby is starting to look like a baby. And when they perform an abortion the baby looks
like a baby.
In the U.S. there are approximately 2 million infertile couples awaiting an adoption.
(Turner & Balch, 2014) 2 million, what does that mean? Most Americans have a really hard
time picturing 2 million, so for those of you who have a hard time picturing it. Two million days
would equal 5,479 in a half years, Two million hours would equal 83,333 days which is 2,777
months which is 231 years. Two million seconds equals about 23 days. If you think that there
are that many couples would give almost anything to love and have a child why would anyone
just kill the child instead, especially when you chose to sex, probably unprotected sex. Whether
it was because you were drunk, on drugs, or lonely you chose, you need to live with the
consequences of your actions, if only for nine months.
Now just like all real world problems this isnt just black and white there are so many
areas of gray that each situation is completely different. I do feel that when rape, incest and

when either the child or the mothers life is on the line. Then it comes down to the individual
and what they feel is the best action to take.
Netflix is home to some great documentaries, one in particular that has to do with this
subject is, the title is called its a girl (Davis, 2012) the film is focused on the genocide and
violence towards women in India and China. It is an extremely eye opening film. In the
beginning the film tells about a woman who killed at least 6 children because they were girls.
Girls in those cultures are thought of as nothing more than a burden and something just to be
used.
No child, boy or girl should ever have to be thought of as a burden. Children are
completely innocent they had no say in the matter, nor do they have any say that they want to
live, to them they are thinking that they shouldnt have to say that they want to live, their mother
should be doing that for them.
