Student Learning Outcomes
1. Analyze Rhetorical Situations: Students will analyze the subject, purpose, audience, and
constraints that influence and determine what kind of document (genre) they will write.
Project 1: Research Paper
The subject of my Research Paper is the discussion of how to reach enlightenment. My intended
readers/viewers is people who are interested in truth, philosophy, knowledge, and spiritual
awakening. My secondary audience is scholars, teachers, and parents. The purpose of my
Research paper is to instruct and guide a path to reaching enlightenment. I do so by defining four
different levels to approach and obtain true knowledge.
Project 2: Argument
My movies main argument was a presentation of how fast food severely shortens life and
reduces the quality of life. My intended readers/viewers is people who are interested in health,
survival, food, and nutrition. My secondary audience is doctors, chefs, and parents. The purpose
of my movies main argument is to enlighten the dangers and cautions of fast food. I do so by a
critical analysis and interpretation of fast food. I used powerful statistics from sources such as the
U.S. Department of Health and Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I stated
how fast food companies are a business and not looking out for peoples best interests and health.
I also questioned how preprocessed food is made and how it affects our bodies.

Project 3: Proposal Genre
My Prezi presentations main argument was a video of my reasons and benefits of becoming a
vegetarian. My intended readers/viewers is people who are interested in vegetarianism and
nutrition. My secondary audience is people who are interested in food and diets. Its crucial for
reports and proposals to grasp and understand the significance of word selection and specific
details of information in order to sound compelling. In a report you must understand the structure
of a Proposal Genre as well and how to approach it. It begins with a summary of the
Introduction, followed by the Methods, Results, Discussion, and finally the Conclusion. One
thing to remember and mention, when comparing two completely different perspectives begin by
stating the pros and cons of the one youre going to counter first. Doing so, will allow your
argument to sound more persuasive and credible because you don't forget to mention both sides
allowing it to be fairer. Always remember to start slow and finish strong when writing and
counter arguing.
2. Find and Evaluate Information: Students will develop research strategies for their
rhetorical situation, and then gather information from primary and secondary sources;
they will evaluate the sources for quality, validity, and appropriateness for the rhetorical
situation.
Project 1: Research Paper
I have learned multiple approaches for planning, researching, editing, proofreading, and
incorporating feedback in order to make my compositions stronger in various mediums and using
multiple technologies by selective word choice, paragraph structure, and having a powerful
thesis and conclusion. I was successfully able to find and evaluate information by citing and

Chavez 3
referencing specific examples such as Platos, Analogy of the Divided Line. This was used as a
guideline between the difference between the intelligible world (True Knowledge) and the visible
world (opinions). I also referenced human psychology and how we all have unique perspectives
and interpretations. I stated how our actions and passions reflect who we truly are and how it
affects our motives and thoughts.
Project 2: Argument
Its significantly important to state all opposing positions and list all their pros and cons when
comparing it to your standpoint. Doing so, will help provide that necessary information for the
reader to decide on their own which will be the better standpoint. Not one perspective is always
right and we usually learn from one another. Assuming leads people to become ignorant and
blind from the truth. I was successfully able to find and evaluate information by gathering valid
knowledge and specific examples of fast food such as, the award winning documentaries Super
Size Me and Food Inc. This was used to support my theme of fast food being a detriment to
human health. I also referenced scientific studies and how we need to be educated and aware of
fast food.
Project 3: Proposal Genre
Its chief when searching for facts about a Report you must never be one-sided. Without
following this rule, the information can be unbalanced and incorrect thus making it less likely for
people to agree with your final conclusion. The key to having the audience agree with you is
being truthful, honest, and authentic in your work including more facts and less opinions. We
must pay close attention to minor details about anything related to the topic. In order to be
unprejudiced and evenhanded the best way to plead your claim is making sure what to say and

Chavez 4
how to say it. To clarify, what I mean by this is that you should always try to improve your
dialect by sounding more professional. This doesn't necessarily mean just fancy flattery words
but more than that. Having confidence in your work can really show a difference compared to
uncertain self-doubting apprehensive work.
3. Compose Documents: Students will develop strategies for generating content, organizing
it into a logical structure, and otherwise shaping it to address the needs of their audience
within particular disciplines.
Project 1: Research Paper
I was successfully able to generate my content by studying and clarifying important concepts and
thoughts. I was able to organize my thoughts by structure and order. I evaluated direct facts and
outlined main ideas. In my academic Research paper I stated how we need to treasure what
makes us special and unique. I stated how true dedication and drive inspires the curiosity to
learn. My approach and presentation was clear, precise, and to the point.
Project 2: Argument
It's crucial for convincing arguments to understand, comprehend, and acknowledging opposing
viewpoints. When it comes to debating and writing effectively in the form of an argument, we
must be specific, critical, and logical. We need to demonstrate reason and logic to convince how
your right and the person is wrong by showing them compared to just telling them. I was
successfully able to develop a strategy for composing my thesis by organization and clarification.
I introduced and discussed the short term and long term effects of fast food.
Project 3: Proposal Genre

Chavez 5
A successful Proposal underlines the importance of evaluations and effectiveness of
speech/dialect. If you want more than one person to agree with you, you must use clear facts that
back up your research. The more compelling the evidence is the more likely you'll have more
people agreeing with your statements. I've learned that from this Report the Introduction is just
as important as the Conclusion. When you finish talking about both controversial issues you
must remember to provide, recommendations, importance, and the look to the future.
4. Present Documents: Students will edit and revise their writing to provide clear meaning
and coherent structure; they will use effective document and paragraph structure,
documentation and genre conventions, and document design to create a rhetorically
complete presentation.
Project 1: Research Paper
its essential we encompass the whole meaning of how to read and write text. You must always
keep your eyes and mind open to different perspectives of people from other cultures. When it
comes to Cross-cultural communication, being able to identify how each culture is different and
how they are similar is worth paying close attention. The reason being is that it can help the
writer to critically think against a wide variety of different texts as well as to improve their
overall writing skills. I learned one word can have many different meanings, especially in
English which makes it a very difficult language to master. Although sometimes it can be easy to
understand where somebody is coming from, the emotional feeling is much more complex.
Project 2: Argument
Building an Argument requires a claim supported by detailed facts and data. My academic
argument demonstrated persuasive techniques and methods to influence my readers and

Chavez 6
audiences. I was successfully able convince my audience by compelling evidence, statistics, and
research. I stated how healthy eating habits and regular physical activity is the key to achieving
and maintaining a healthy balanced life. I also stated how we need to be mindful and informed
about the foods we eat.
Project 3: Proposal Genre
A successful Proposal underlines the importance of evaluations and the effectiveness of the right
type of speech/dialect. The purpose of understanding how to write in multiple genres ultimately
allows you to write different mediums, according to the needs of the audience and the purpose of
the document. In other words, you must have knowledge about the different kinds of audiences
and specific mediums to relate and convince your readers. Again, the main purpose of a report is
to investigate and give proper information step-by-step about the topic so that it's easy for the
reader to follow. The reader should also be able to replicate the same results that you provided. In
some cases, it's extremely difficult to decipher which is better between two debating viewpoints
but with enough truth and verity, hopefully the decision isn't too unclear. Some tips I have
learned from writing this Report Analysis is that you must know exactly what youre discussing.
I was successfully able to present my documents by preparing for all the arguments against my
standpoint by using lots of evidence. One way of being an expert at persuasion is appealing to
logos, pathos, and ethos.
5. Reflection: In reflecting on major writing assignments, students will be able to explain
course outcomes and how they have achieved them.
For my first major writing assignment I was successfully able to reflect on my course outcomes
by understanding the principles of Research. Academic research is a concept and process of

Chavez 7
learning, teaching, and enlightenment. I have learned through research we can enhance
awareness, techniques, potentials, and results. Research impacts the way we think and react.
Research enables us to make decisions and choices. The goal of research is to obtain facts and
truth.
For my second major writing assignment I was successfully able to reflect on my course
outcomes by understanding the principles of an Argument. An academic argument is a concept
and process of debating, clear reasoning, and providing evidence. An argument involves
research, critical thinking, and presenting a claim. Arguments support claims by focusing on
facts and expressing point of views. An argument questions, answers, and explains a
statement/claim. Arguments require structure, clear communication, and persuasive techniques.
For my third major writing assignment I was successfully able to reflect on my course outcomes
by understanding the principles of a Proposal Genre. An academic proposal is a concept and
process of analyzing, expanding and presenting knowledge. A proposal evaluates research and
facts. A proposal requires a clear claim and concise information. Last but not least, a proposal
needs to be organized and structured according to their readers/viewers.
