What will we cover ?

If you already know how to use these buttons:

DONT LEAVE !

(youll still learn something)

But You may want to give up your Hands-On seat to

someone else

Mold Tools toolbar

Model Preparation:
Analyzes draft angles of faces, based on a mold pull direction.
But what is mold pull direction ?

Just point the ARROW in the direction

the PART pulls out of the MOLD

Model Preparation:
Green Faces Positive Draft
Red Faces Negative Draft
Yellow Faces REQUIRE Draft
(maybe)
Floating the cursor over any face will
display the draft angle of that face

BOTTOM LINE: In the perfect part

you want everything on one side
GREEN, and everything on the other
side RED

Model Preparation:
Used to grow (or shrink) the model geometry
Want to scale the molded part
slightly larger so that when it
cools (and shrinks) it will be the
right size.
Usually 5%...
Can do Uniform scaling or
scale differently in the X,Y,Z
directions
NOTE:
change

The scale command does NOT

the dimensions of preceding features !

HANDS-ON
DRAFT ANALYSIS for 3 using Plane 1
Add DRAFT (3) where needed
Top of ribs as Neutral Plane
16 faces on ribs

SCALE 1.05 (5% larger)

File is Camera START.sldprt

Mold Creation:
Used to establish the Parting Line
Works exactly like the Draft Analysis
command
The edges that are shared by the
core and cavity (green and red)
faces will be automatically chosen
Can deselect from the list and/or
also MANUALLY choose parting line

10

Mold Creation:
What Next ??

11

Mold Creation:
Used to close-off areas where Core would bleed into Cavity

12

HANDS-ON: Parting Lines & Shutoffs

Create the Parting Line

Using Plane1, arrow UP

Create the Shutoff Surfaces

All CONTACT
using INSIDE edges !!

Use your file OR

Use Camera PARTING.sldprt

13

Mold Creation:
A ribbon-like surface to SPLIT the Core from the Cavity
Uses the Parting Line
Usually perpendicular to pull dir.
Tangent to Surface

Normal to Surface

Perpendicular to
Pull

14

Mold Creation:
Automates the creation of the Cavity & Core solid bodies

15

Based on the surfaces created in previous steps

Outside shape of blocks defined by a sketch

HANDS-ON: Parting Surface & Tooling Split

Create Parting Surface Perp. to Pull 5mm

Tooling Split

w/ Interlock Surface

More mold analysis tools

Thickness Analysis
Find areas too thin or thick for molding

Parting Line Analysis

Visualize and optimize possible parting lines

Undercut Analysis
Finds trapped areas on the part
Example of Undercut Analysis

17

Post Mold Creation:

The magic mold tool !!
Side Cores
Lifters
Core/Cavity Pins
High wear areas

Ejector Pins
Electrodes
Multi-Part Molds

18

(so many uses)

HANDS-ON: Undercut Analysis and Cores

Perform Undercut Analysis on part
Create a Side Core
Create Ejector Pins

Dont use your part !!

Use Camera CORE.sldprt

19

Real Life
What about when the automated Mold Tools dont work ??
Use them to get what you can !
Really need to know SURFACING after that
