MITOCHONDRIAL
MYOPATHY

Mitochondria
Mitochondria are located
throughout the cell. They have
a double membrane. The outer
one is smoother whereas the
inner membrane is folded. This
causes cristae, these increase
the surface area inside the cell.
Inside the inner membrane is
the matrix it is used to
synthesize ATP.

Normal Function
Normally the mitochondria
acts at the powerhouse of the
cell. They synthesize ATP inside
the inner membrane.
Mitochondria also help store
calcium ions, enact
programmed cell death, and
produce hormones.

Importance

Consectetuer arcu ipsum ornare pellentesque vehicula, in

vehicula diam, ornare magna erat felis wisi a risus. Justo
fermentum id. Malesuada eleifend, tortor molestie, a a vel et.
Mauris at suspendisse, neque aliquam faucibus adipiscing,
vivamus in. Wisi mattis leo suscipit nec amet, nisl fermentum.

If the mitochondria where to

completely disappear it would
be very bad. Without the
mitochondria cells would not
be able to aerobically
respirate. This would cause
them to not have enough
energy to survive. Without the
cells the organism dies as well.

Mitochondrial Myopathy

Kearns-Sayre Syndrome is an oculocraniosomatic neuromuscular

disorder. KSS causes cells to not have the energy to function. For
organisms this means fatigue, droopy eyes, and occasionally organ
failure.
