Classroom Management Plan

The succeeding statements mirror my belief about how children learn, how they
behave, and my part as a teacher in influencing their learning and behavior. My
beliefs have formed based on my experiences so far in the classroom, in addition to
other interactions with children and my studies on educational theorists, such as
Piaget and his belief that children learn through experiences, Bruner and his modes
of learning, Vygotsky and his zone of proximal development and scaffolding, Maslow
and his Hierarchy of Needs, Skinner and his behaviorism, and Gardner and his
theory of Multiple Intelligences. These theorists most matched up with my
experiences as a learner as well as what I have witnessed with my students
learning.
I believe that students are all capable of and curious about learning. They are
always thinking and asking questions about things they do not understand or wish
to know about. With that, I believe how children behave can be greatly influenced
by their peers, family, teachers, and other adults who play a role in tier lives.
Children, especially early age children need to have the desired behavior and
actions modeled repeatedly in order to understand how to behave in the desired
way. I believe all students need to know that they matter and are reminded every
day that someone cares about them, which is absolutely a large part of my role as a
teacher.
Another large role as a teacher is the duty of making my classroom a safe and
positive environment that motivates children to learn in a variety of ways.
Strategies to achieve this may include:

Setting up the classroom that allows for a variety of teaching

strategies that suit my students learning styles as well as easy
transitions.
Age-appropriate communication that clearly state my expectations for
the students.
Chances for students to rehearse rules and routines.
Reinforcing desired behavior.
Doing my best to anticipate and curb any behavior that may be
disruptive or cause the classroom to become unsafe.
Get to know my students in a meaningful yet appropriate way.

When problems arise, I will be sure to have a plan of action in order to resolve those
problems as calmly and quickly as possible in order to keep order and safety in the
classroom. However, as much as possible I would try to act as a facilitator in order
to allow the students to handle issues themselves.

Discipline is often needed, so my plan for that is as follows:

Students will have 2 chances to correct their behavior; the third time will
result in a consequence appropriate to misbehavior.
Students will be made to understand what they did wrong and why it was
wrong.
Students will receive appropriate consequence for their actions.

I will use a reward system to reward positive and desired behavior. It will be my goal
to catch my students doing being good.
It is my duty to understand and follow all school and district policies at all times.
I believe it is important to encourage parent involvement. I will instill an open door
policy in my classroom for parents to come in and discuss any concerns or other
items regarding their children. I will also be sure to update the parents regularly
about their childs progress, and ask for volunteers to attend any field trips or help
within the classroom and school in general, and any other way parents are able to
be a a part of their childs education.
