Name of lesson concept: Discovering Essential Ingredients in Biographies


Umbrella Question to be answered with this lesson: Why do writers
choose to write biographies about certain people? How did thinking
about the important facts help you understand this persons life and
accomplishments?
Today the students will learn: What are two or three main things you
want them to learn from your lesson? WRITTEN AS MEASUREABLE
OBJECTIVES (use Blooms!). They will be able to infer why the author
chose to write about this person.
How will you link the new materials to prior learning? My lesson on
literary nonfiction-we looked for facts now we are identifying specific
facts about this persons life.
What will students do? I am going to read Snowflake Bentley to them
and we are going to discuss
How long will be spent on each part (timing)? Both 10 minutes
Will all students be doing the same thing? Yes
How will you know if students understand the content objectives? They
are going to work individually to complete their own photo plaque!
When will assessment occur? After they complete the worksheets and
turn them into me.
How will you get the students attention? By reading the short story and
explaining the lesson.
How are you going to teach this lesson? Reading the story, discussing a
biography, going into the photo plaque activity.
How will you summarize and check for understanding? Students will
complete their worksheets and hand them into me.
