Dimension 9. Commitment to Professionalism

Artifact: Attendance Certification of Completion the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
Workshop
Discussion:
I used the attendance certificate of the Dignity for All Students Act as an artifact for
Dimension 9. DASA stands for Dignity for All Students Act. I attended this annual workshop on
July 22th, 2015 at Hunter College. I found teacher workshop was really beneficial, especially for
teacher candidates. In the workshop the main goal of the course was to help school based
personnel create an affirming educational environment for all students by addressing school
culture and climate. It was also covered the identification and mitigation of harassment, bullying
and discrimination, and strategies for effectively addressing problems of exclusion, bias and
aggression in education setting. As a student teacher, I realized teaching is an ongoing
experience. I also realized that there might not be a best teaching way. Instead of a best teaching
strategy, we should always seek a better and more suitable way for a specific group of students.
I want to also mention that I am attending the weekly department meeting in the school
where I have my student teaching, and stuff meeting which is a monthly meeting. Those meeting
are very good experience to let me know with what I will deal in the future. In those meeting
there are different topics covered like: the state standard exam (Algebra Regents) and SAT,
parents teacher conference, students work, grades, etc
