Rhythmic Movement Skills (2)

Level 1- Week 16
Lesson Objectives:
Move in time to music with spacial awareness
Use simple locomotive movements
Standards:
1) Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patters
needed to perform a
variety of physical activities.

Students demonstrate and use knowledge of psychological and

sociological concepts principles and strategies that relate to learning and


performance of physical activity.
Equipment:

Introductory Activity: (3-5 min)
Drill Sergeant
Designate a student to be a drill sergeant. The sergeant gives the
commands such as:
1.Walk, jog, and halt.
2.March, jump twice, and freeze.
3.March, about face, and halt.
4.March, double time, and march in place.
Fitness Development Activity: Mini-Challenge Course (7-10 min)
Arrange four parallel courses with a group at each course. Students
perform the challenges from a cone at the start to a finish cone and jog back
to continuously repeat the course. On signal, groups rotate to a new
course.Course 1: Hop in and out of 5 hoops, Puppy Dog Walk around a cone
for 5 seconds and skip to the first cone. Course 2: Weave in and out of 4
cones, Crab Walk around a cone for 5 seconds and gallop to finish cone.
Course 3: Do the Rolling Log the length of mat, do an agility run through 4

hoops, and slide to the finish cone. Course 4: Jump over each 5 cones, jump
back and fourth over a stretched out jump rope, run backward around 3
cones, and hop to a cone.

the right (counter clockwise)
of the circle
5.on the verse part,
students will stand still
6.face the center of the
circle and follow the
directions of the verse
7.on the words and turn
yourself about students
make a complete turn in
place and get ready to skip
the opposite way of the
circle again
8.continue repeating the
verse and chorus parts but
change the tasks in the
song.

Lesson Focus
Game Activity-5 minutes
Skunk tag: Students will remain in a big circle to choose the person to be
it. A ball will be used to be passed around form student to student to
determine who will be it. The ball will be passed around until the music
stops. The student holding the ball with be considered it. Students will now
be scattered about the perimeter. The student who is it, will chase the others
trying to tag one of them. When a tag is made, the student will say Youre
it. The new it will chase other children.
Safe position: Students will be safe from the it person by moving into the
skunk position by kneeling and reaching one arm under a knee and holding
their nose. The skunk position can only be held for five seconds, students are
then eligible to be tagged.
Movements for tag time:
1 minute- running tag
1 minute- skipping tag
1 minute- hopping tag
1 minute- fast walking tag
