Economical Emissions
2012 was the hottest year on record in the continental United States, according to the
United States Global Change Research Program. In the past few decades, the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) of the United States government has made many attempts in order to
aware the general public to this issue of rapidly rising global temperature. Some people have
chosen not to believe the countless environmental scientists and continue to protest against their
numerous studies of the climate. They say that 97 percent of scientists are making these facts
up and have even created their own pseudoscience against the scientists claims. This example
alone has caused an environmental crisis for Earths inhabitants, with those who dont believe
their actions affect the world making the climate continually more dangerous. With the
continually worsening climate, illness is more prominent and natural cycles of life are getting
interrupted. This global temperature warming has been predominantly caused by human
activitiesmainly the burning of fossil fuels. If anything is to be different, there must be a
decrease in the emissions of these fossil fuels by the people who use them the most
corporations. Corporations should be required to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions because
they damage the economy, increase risk of illness, and destroy the environment intended to be
left for future generations.
There has been much talk recently over the greenhouse gas emissions and how they affect
the public, especially its economy. The White House stated in a recent update that No corner of

the planet and no sector of the global economy will remain unaffected by climate change in the
years ahead. This means that the current environmental crisis is affecting the world as a whole.
Some people do not believe in climate change, much less believe that it could greatly and
negatively affect the economy. With the rising temperatures, oceans are warming and the natural
cycles of marine life are shifting dramatically, causing a negative fluctuation in the fish market.
This isnt mutually exclusive to only fish, either. This affects all species and the Nature
Conservancy says that Around the globe, seasons are shifting dramatically, projecting onefourth of Earths species to be nearing extinction in 2050. The pH of the ocean has increasingly
become more acidic, hurting the animals and anyone who eats them. The California Institute of
Technology addresses the rising ocean temperatures and economical risks by stating that The
range of published evidence indicates that the net damage costs of climate change are likely to be
significant and to increase over time (Shaftel). Running the risk of increasing climate change
has been proven to cause a risk for not only the environment but the United States economy as
well as other countries. With the economy taking a dip into the deep end, public health is placed
into the limelight as well.
Climate change is influential in the environment and what it produces, especially when it
may be a health risk to the public. Whether it is tornadoes, hurricanes, or any other kind of
extreme weather, climate change can seriously damage the earth and its resources. Impacts
related to climate change are evident across regions and in many sectors important to society
such as human health, agriculture and food security, water supply, transportation, energy,
ecosystems, and othersand are expected to become increasingly disruptive throughout this
century and beyond (Understand Climate Change, 2015). This is very prominent because this
issue of greenhouse gas emissions not only affects the air that is breathed, but everything else

that the emissions affect. The health and wellbeing of consumers is very important to companies
for without those loyal consumers, capitalism would not be as prominent in society as it is today.
If the customers fall ill from the environment and what is contained within it, corporations and
the like will endure hard times. They have to look out for their employees as well and keep them
in good health because without the workers, the company is obsolete. If the carbon emissions
from companies are lowered, illness from environmental causes is less likely. This also is helpful
in the fact that doing business cleanly helps the status of the business in society as well as its
customers. A recent fact of climate change that has come to the attention of United States
Department of Agriculture is that Most effects of greenhouse gases will increase greatly in the
years to come. This is terrible for the environment because if the levels of emissions were
already dangerous to the environment, then the predicament of the society of the future might be
unimaginable. The Washington State Department of Ecology claims that Our climate is rapidly
changing with disruptive impacts, and that change is progressing faster than any seen in the last
2,000 years. This idea of environmental disaster is daunting and a real reality that we face as the
future of our world. Many do not realise the kind of trouble we are environmentally in and do
nothing to change it, believing that its fine and just as normal as it was decades before. The
daunting reality is that there may be little left of a world that this generation would want to leave
to their descendants if what it provides for its inhabitants is continued to be disrespected and
ruined in the present day.
The state of the global environment is in a constant decline, affected incredibly by its
inhabitants. Climate change impacts many things over time like our health, the increase of the
spread of disease, and our economic well being (Climate Change, 2012). The health of the
entire world is declining and this means that there wont be very much left of a world to provide

for the generations to come. Climate change is expected to have a profound impact on the
environment, causing many disruptions to the natural rhythms of the world. According the the
California Institute of Technology, Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up
earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner (Unknown). This
causes a massive shift in what we know to be natures natural rhythm. The planet has warmed
greatly over the past few decades, causing more intense everything. Rising temperatures can
lead to more smog, longer allergy seasons, and an increased incidence of extreme-weatherrelated injuries (Unknown). Longer allergy seasons can be detrimental to ones health and cause
an even larger fluctuation in plant life cycles. The probability and intensity of large, devastating
storms rises with the global temperature, becoming even more real of a possibility. Even though
there are many factual, scientific studies and numerous articles backing up the theory of climate
change and global warming, many still believe it to be just a figment of the scientists
imaginations.
There are people known as climate change deniers who deny any possible evidence of
climate change and find flaws in scientists work. Climate change deniers are quick to find fault
with climate change reports, mainly by finding errors in prediction by this or that scientist and by
condemning the whole process of modeling as unreliable (Carroll). Many people choose to
disbelieve what these scientists spend their life trying to prove and prevent. They are usually--but
not always--people who come from a conservative or religious background that generally pose
as skeptics, refusing to accept consensus conclusions in science on the ground that there is still
some uncertainty (Carroll). These deniers choose to ignore the fact that there is uncertainty in
most endeavors of life yet really only push this away because they probably feel too scared to
have to deal with our failing environment. They also dont believe that cutting back emissions

will help anything, seeing how they say it doesnt exist. These climate change people do not
believe in the proven science, claiming that its full of uncertainties. As Steven Dutch says,
Many critics of global warming charge that evidence is being selectively interpreted, that
contrary evidence is being suppressed, and that scientists who doubt global warming are being
denied a chance to be heard or ostracized (Dutch). Such critics are using many faux bases for
their beliefs on why climate change is fake, blaming the withheld information from scientists as
one. These people are most likely afraid to come to the realisation that the planet is not in good
condition at the moment--and it is only getting worse.
Greenhouse gases have grown significantly more abundant in the atmosphere, becoming
more prominent in the daily lives of everyone living on Earth. The planet is warming, and over
the past half century, this warming has been driven primarily by human activitypredominantly
the burning of fossil fuels (Unknown). This warming and changing environment of Earth is
going to largely cost all governments, whether it is just through the economy, in the air that is
breathed, or affecting the only planet that scientists have found capable of sustaining life in the
galaxy in which Earth presides. If these larger corporations were willing to cut back their
emissions output by twenty percent, this act would greatly decrease the amount of carbon
emissions in the atmosphere as well as have it stop ruining the ozone layer. Climate change isnt
just affecting the animals, it is affecting all of Earths inhabitants and the future that the world
has. There should be a mandated law for this issue, seeing how this problem is already affecting
our planet greatly. If it is not kept under control in the next decade or so, there might not be a
safe world left to live on. Reducing all carbon emissions from both companies and citisens alike
while taking steps to keep this earth a healthier one will be beneficial to all inhabitants of this
planet in the long run.
