Teaching Procedure
Prepare- Tell them we will be reviewing and doing some fun rhythm exercises. We will be
reviewing and playing/singing the same game as last week.
Present
-

Review eighth note rhythms

chant the rhythm exercises
Have individual students attempt the rhythm exercises alone
have someone play claves to keep the beat while the class speas the rhythms

Practice and Extend

- Demonstrate the walking and singing and the skipping and singing for them, then
ask for a volunteer to demonstrate each.
- Have them try the walking and skipping while I sing.
- Put together all three, singing while walking and skipping.
- It stands on the outside of the circle and walks the opposite direction as
the students in the circle. At a pretty girl or a nice young man, it stops at whoever
is next to them in the circle links arms to skip around the circle while the the rest of the
children clap their hands to the beat.
- The partner of it becomes the new it and walks around the outside of
the circle
- Repeat several times until a good portion of the students have had a
chance to play.

Assess and Close

- Watch how the students react to putting all the aspects of the game together.
- Listen and see how each student reacts to the game and earlier to the rhythm
exercises as well
- Take mental notes if the students can chant the rhythms alone or not. Note the
range of ability and development.
