Practicum 1 Goals

1. More enthusiasm when teaching lessons and in the classroom. My enthusiasm for
teaching is directly linked to my attitude towards teaching. My practicum experience has
shown me that if my attitude towards teaching diminishes then so too does my
enthusiasm expressed within the classroom. They are directly correlated to each other.
2. Better chunking of the lessons to ensure that student attention is maintained throughout
the lesson. Intervals of 10 15 mins max can be used to ensure that student attention is
maintained (with the addition of classroom management strategies). Body breaks and
transitions to other activities can be implemented into my lesson plans to better
accommodate student attention.
3. Better circulation throughout the classroom to ensure that each student is on task and
optimizing on the allotted time for individual and group work. Making a mental note of
who is on task and conscientiously assessing individual student engagement is crucial for
ensuring lesson objectives are being met.
4. Better classroom management and control of the students behavior to facilitate a positive
learning environment. Establishing mutual respect with the understanding that
misbehavior will not be tolerated and that consequences will be administered in
accordance to the misbehavior (consequence representative of the misbehavior).
5. Ensuring that the objectives are being met after every lesson. Keeping more detailed logs
of assessment representative of whether or not an objective was met. Also ensuring that
there is some accurate measure of whether or not an objective was successfully met
within each lesson (anecdotal notes, worksheet, etc.).
